[Assistance] Mini-Map Vs Radar

So just something quick and simple.

A mini-map as stated in the rules, are allowed. Though something that can be used for meta-gaming such as a radar (which detects players) would be counted under meta-gaming to know exact areas where people are.

Could I have some support or assistance to help define if a RADAR is allowed on the server?

---

People might come up with:

But it helps us find RP.

It can help us find our friends, when we are lost.

It can help to find players.

Though some negatives about it are:

War-Zone, knowing exactly where your enemy are and how many people are there...

Meta-game potential on "Assassins"

Could locate people and give clear names to 'move' away from them.

---

Though again, are radar's allowed? As I would consider them to conflict with the rule of, X-ray. Could I have some assistance with this issue of, Radar's that help find players?

No. I don't believe radars would be allowed. They are different from minimaps in the fact that they detect players, while minimaps don't. (They just show a certain area of the minecraft world.)

Mini-maps are allowed as they can be RP'ed as a "Map" of the area as with other things.

While Radar's have really nothing to give besides meta-gaming usage. Which I have seen countless times, and even seen in a few BR's.

Edit:

With this, a Radar as you said, DETECTS players. This can be used and abused so easily.

While a Mini-Map can give a ground area, but not give locations of players.

I use radar and have for years. There was a ban report where someone actually went out of their way to report another person for a radar and it was denied.

As far as my understanding of the radar's go, they simply display names that you would normally be able to see through walls. During war I can see how it would be abused, but other than that it simply shows players on the map as you would see their nametags normally, but.. on a map. I've no opinions on them really.

I use a radar. Who cares? I use it to find roleplay in desolate areas, and I've never seen it used for meta as it's obvious as ****. It's same as nameplates. It shouldn't count as hacking.

As this would state, a Radar would be a client side modification that can be used to break the rule meta-gaming, which than can be used to hand a advantage over another person.-

Edit:

For it being the same use as "name-plates" you are mistaken, a radar can have a bigger range and even can cross a length of over 100 blocks away. So they can break the rule of meta-gaming. Even when used in war-zones, and the other examples listed.

Good luck enforcing that.

Never saw a radar that could detect players over 100 blocks away. The one I use only detects names as far as it would a regular nameplate. I suppose what you're speaking of is a different mod.

I know of a few radars that can detect that far away when set on "far" distance, as with I have heard people use it, as they state on team-speak or over skype in groups.

Radars just use entity locations that your client can fetch from the server - exactly the same way nameplates are shown. They are completely legitimate since they use the same data as nameplates. However, radars do make players a lot more visible than nameplates do, but there's a tradeoff because you have to look away from the game to see them, etc.

Essentially, it's a little bit cheesy, but nobody is going to get banned over using them unless they actively metagame with it just like with nameplates.

Yep, if you have your render distance on tiny, you would only see players that were within your view range.

However, if you use a mod that makes your view distance larger, (Is that a real thing?) then in theory, yes, it would show all players on your mini-map's 'map'
