Ilikefooddude 430 Share Posted August 3, 2014 Lost The bleak, grey sand was cold and uninviting against the bare leather of the Uruk’s skin as he sat, but he paid as much mind to it as he did the rest of his surroundings. A few feet away, he knew, a fire smouldered and cackled its dying laughter as it licked and popped through its remaining fuel, but despite its macabre heat, Thurak did not feel it. Around him the wind blew at his hair and pulled insistently at his loincloth, but the Orc let it breeze by, and not even a shudder was had in response. He could hear Poots, the hyena, who’d joined him like he always did on his treks, panting and drooling as he faced the wall of the sandstone cliff nearby, but he did not listen, and he was as blind to him as his pet was to the world tonight, meditating amongst the dunes of Thales’ deserts. This was the third time he’d come to this lonely shelter, hidden far north where few travelled and fewer stayed for more than a few passing hours. But the Orc had business here, and he would stay until he’d completed it. When Thurak felt he was ready, and all of the nerves and stresses of recent weeks seemed to mean nothing, he gingerly reached into a satchel by his crossed legs and took out a small, cotton pouch. The bottom was stained an ominous blacky-brown colour, and the top had been sewn tightly shut. Regardless of that, thick ooze slowly leaked from its base, staining the sand below with a dark hue and an acrid smell. Unfaltering, Thurak threw it to the fire, his expression hardening as a violent wave of warmth and stench poured over him. The fire greedily took the vulgar fuel with a flare, rising to a fearsome height of twisting flames- now coloured a dark, fickle purple. Closing his eyes once again, the Orc took deep, strong breaths through his nose, managing not to gag on the offensive toxin that had begun to surround the now blaring campfire. Again, he let his mind clear and drift away, focusing only on the small phrases of Old Blah he’d learnt from his teacher’s scribbled writings. As he saw them in his mind, so he spoke, but he didn’t hear his grotesque whispers over the growing hiss of the fire and the low growl that Poots had started, nor did he hear the soft beats of Rhino-hide drum he’d started tapping, or the occasional shake of the rattle’s he’d hand carved not too long ago, just for this purpose. The noises seemed to amplify and echo around the camp, overlapping to form a brutish orchestra of snarls, cracks, clatters and thrums until the novice couldn't distinguish the difference between them, and he was almost convinced that some fierce beast of the desert had reached his camp- looming around him and waiting for the right time to strike. Along with the foreboding intuition, Thurak found his mind wandering to strange, untouched places- places where neither time nor realism seem to matter. Weird, twisted visages seemed to surround him in the blackness of his thoughts, and though he knew he was still, his head spun and reality seemed to bend, twist and plummet. He was lost, he soon realised in the silence of his mind- drifting to Krug knows where in the depths of his person. If the Orc could have felt despair, at that time he would have, yet there in those dark places all emotions seemed flat and muted, and as he drifted there for untold hours, all the Uruk felt, overpowering all else, was lost. OOCThere we are! Sorry if the post seems rushed or crummily made, but I was in a hurry with this one and don't have the time to improve or rewrite it. Thurak's progressing further, and is ever so close to entering the spirit realm (finally), but with a big trip coming up for me for the rest of this week I thought it was best to wait, and this will help explain his absence in the Uzg. I've had a lot of fun with the recent events getting Thurak to this point, and hopefully there'll be a few more for the Orcs and the odd Pinkskins to enjoy in later weeks. Wish me luck Skiing, and thanks for staying tuned!
