Explaining The 4.0 Regions

After the latest 4.0 updated release, we were all given a new map of what the map currently looks like and the regions that are to be expected upon launch. What I would like to get is an explanation on what the regions actual are, how they are going to work and so on.

In the very small image posted by Native, we can see big green borders with little green circles in some of them. At this point, I have no idea what any of that means, what the bigger and smaller regions have to do with each other and how the whole thing is suppose to work. Some basic information would be helpful at the least but more so a common sense sort of thing. There are players on this server who lead nations, towns and guilds; A lot of us are very interested in securing some regioned land so that we may foster and grow our RP and provide a place for the many that we lead to live. To do that we need to have some idea of what we are to expect, please don't shotgun us on launch without that information, that would be displacing and frustrating too many people unnecessarily.

I'm not looking for a full blown explanation, but it would be appreciated. The main objective of this thread is to get an answer on some of the things I mentioned above.

My personal question is about acquiring pillars. Will they be as resource intensive as they are now? Will we be able to get them from GMs? At the moment, (escpecially for towns), you pretty much have to get setup, grind mining, get diamonds for the pillar and then actually start town building.

We should be able to buy them from the gm shop AND bring minas over to do so. Maybe just copy player data...

So, pillars need materials to craft, and a bit of time.

Once you have a pillar, place it down into any Nexus-Region, it will then be claimed by you.

Gain members before the weekly region check so you don't lose your crap.

???

Profit.

Edit: The main point here is that you don't need to know much, infer as much as you need. :)

What needs to be so secretive about how the regions are set up in 4.0? It is mechanic of the server that we must all use if we want to pursue land ownership, it is something that would normally be on a wiki for everyone to read and understand. Generally understanding a mechanic is a pillar attribute to an enjoyable system.

I guess I will refine my question:

What are the little regions inside of the bigger regions? All I can defer is that is where you intend we place our towns? If so, I feel they are much too small. Why are there some times multiple in one big region, only one in others and none in the rest? If not, why even have them? If they are simply there to protect a pre-built feature, just say so.

The large regions are mostly free build and have regions for region-flags. Some are claimable some aren't, the smaller regions are claimable plots but keep in mind this image doesn't accurately depict the plots, they're larger and more numerous. (I just didn't want to reveal the actual plots because meta)

Thank you Native.

I understand the Meta angle but the thing I see is that these regions are in OOC and we need to know certain things in OOC. If it were up to RP, it shouldn't matter where in a region a town would be set up, just so long as it was in the protected region; That's simply RP and the confines of specific regions is an OOC restriction. I honestly feel we would need to see these individual regions for a good number of reasons but doing so would likely detract from the sort of "adventure" that the staff may be trying to foster. Then again, so long as I can claim one of those big regions without fear of not being able to build where I please, I'm fine.

The issue with this is that it would pretty much make a group of players wait for the miner to grind to get diamonds before they can even rp.

Plenty of times in the past people have built towns before getting them protected, and role-played doing so.

What is stopping you now?

Well, at least from what I've seen so far, (If I'm wrong on this count, I apologize. When Cappy was helping me set mine up in this map, I was unable to place blocks while it was unclaimed.), an unclaimed nexus region can't be built in. So the group would have to live in crapshacks outside or build the town elsewhere before later returning to claim the region.

And if it does work in that the region will be freebuild until claimed, will there be any measures to stop town 'theft' of somebody going in and claiming a region that others are building in, and have yet to be able to afford a pillar.

If I can add a suggestion, maybe create a weaker pillar for towns (Unless Residence ones work like this? To what I've seen, they don't) that is cheaper, but requires higher activity. That way players could still have some grief protection while a miner grinds his way to diamonds, but we would still have measures to prevent every region being taken.

Being unable to build in unclaimed regions was a bug.

I'll see what I can do about the pillar, most likely on server launch we will bring the costs down a bit to ease transition, then ramp it up later to give regions the value they need.

Good to know, glad to see my main concern alleviated. Cheaper pillar costs help as well.

Thanks man.

Even so, will VIPs get first come first serve with regions? Or is that not something that comes with VIP anymore?
