Presenting the First Draft of the King Election Method

 

AMENDMENT I

Concerning the Succession to the Crown of Urguan

THE GRAND KING OF URGUAN, in order to ensure a speedy and orderly transition, shall be elected by the dwarven population of the Grand Kingdom of Urguan from a list of at least two candidates chosen by majority vote of the Thane Council upon the death, abdication, [or] deposal. or temporary absence of the Grand King.

The compilation of the candidates by the Thanes Council shall take place over a time period not exceeding three stone days from the vacancy of the office of Grand King, and may be ended early by majority vote of the Thane Council. If, at the end of such a period, a list of at least two candidates has not been compiled, then the candidates for the office of Grand King shall be the five Thanes of the Thanes Council.

Any potential candidate possessing less than full dwarven heritage, who serves or has served within the past stone month as Lord Regent, or is judged stark raving mad within the past stone month is debarred from participating in the election as a candidate, with no exception.

The election of the Grand King shall take place over a period of one stone week immediately preceding the end of the candidate compilation process. Each dwarven citizen of the Grand Kingdom shall be permitted to vote for one candidate from the compiled list. At the end of the election week, the candidate with the most dwarven votes automatically assumes the office of Grand King of Urguan, notwithstanding any coronation or other ceremony.

May the Grand King be absence, either by capture or sickness, a Lord Regent will be elected by the same election method as the Grand King. He will retain all Grand King abilities while the Grand King is in absence. Lord Regent will not be coronated as Grand King only the power will be received. In replace of the thane that has be newly elected as Lord Regent, a dwarf from the same clan will take the place of the its last thane according to their trials of election. Should the Grand King return, the Lord Regent will become thane once again and the dwarf assuming the position of thane in the Lord Regent’s absence will be taken out of the council.

In the case of a tie, a tie breaking conclave shall be held at a location designated by the High Prophet on the stone day immediately preceding the election stone week. In this conclave, only the votes of Prophets who attend in person shall be counted, and votes may only be cast for the tied candidates with the highest number of votes. In the case of a tie at the conclave, the High Prophet shall choose the candidate who he considers most personally honorable. The candidate chosen by the conclave automatically assumes the office of Grand King of Urguan, notwithstanding any coronation or other ceremony.

 

I require all Court of Mountains members/Thanes Council members to voice their edits, should edits need to be made. If you feel this is suitable, reply with your informal yes, should you not, quote the piece you deem is unsuitable or needs to be explained in more depth. Should this pass by with needed edits, it will be rewritten and then be voted on by the council.

They will be nominated by the thanes from the thanes. Your personal opinion on if the thane you nominate for the position is based on your experiences with the dwarf.

This is to prevent the next time a Grand King is sick or captured. A lord regent is set in place to keep the government running.
