Master Of Magic

With our new city discovered, and construction underway as we speak, I've come to the conclusion that now is the time for one to take the title of Okarir'tayna. I wish to show my interest in such a position, my intelligence, magical prowess and leadership skills plain enough that my reasoning is clear. I wish to progress the magical development within our wondrous city. I ask that anyone who would object step forward. Argue that this one isn't deserving or qualified if you must.

Luthon folds his arms, standing in the audience.

"...my intelligence, magical prowess and leaderships skills plain enough that my reasoning is clear."

He repeats.

"I believe you've affronted your own intellect with that nonsensical sentence, perhaps if more mages could read and write, they would be capable of forming coherent speech. If nobody else challenges you, I will apply for the position."

((Calm down, it's called a typo. I was about to head out to get pizza, I was excited!))

When I was Guild Master of the Mages Guild, I raised the dead Guild from the ground. Once more bringing life and people back into the fold. I gave the Guild goals, lessons and actual progression. Shortly after I departed, Archmage Crumena let it die. I returned, once more breathing life into the broken husk of this Guild. I became Archmage myself, and used my own funds to erect a new hall and tower. Formed lessons and lectures. I eventually sought to return to my kin, and once more did the Guild fail to exist. Not to mention Malinors removal, and the Conclaves rise. Which only began to fail after I had left, I may add. It seems that of which I make, only fail after my departure.

And what perhaps, have you done? I'm unaware of the titles you've held, the progression you've assisted or have sought. I'm also certain that you're not nearly as competent when it comes to teaching, compared to this one. I've taught several notable mages, one being our late Lelien. Her prowess when it came to illusion was due to this one. Once more, I'm unaware of who you have taught, or the worth you offer.

I do believe the only one who has affronted their own insinuated intellect, is you. Perhaps only proving ones ignorance, if anything.

Luthon stares quietly at Kalameet as he reels off his small speech.

"You used exactly 224 words to effectively say "No you.""

He grunts, raising a single finger.

"My point has already been made, every organization you've been a part of has inevitably failed, with you abandoning the leadership position at the earliest opportunity to escape blame for the failure."

Luthon shrugs quietly, folding his hands in front of him as he takes on a more respectful tone.

"I do not doubt your wealth of magical knowledge, Kalameet Izalith, I simply doubt your wisdom."

Luthon then turns to the onlookers, addressing them.

"For wisdom and knowledge are like a bow and arrow, they require each other to work effectively. Alone, they are simply barbaric weapons. Together, they form an advanced technology that has been used for nearly a thousand years."

He steps slowly down from the stage, rejoining the crowd.

"I do not desire this position. I desire that the city prosper under the care of a competent and wise Okarir'tanya. If this gentleman is the only available option, I will do my civic duty."

Debates are generally long winded ways of saying "No, I disagree". Your point is quite moot in that regard.

Assuming I left due to imminent failure is largely uneducated assumptions sprouted from ones ignorance. As before mentioned, it seems you're lathered in it. My point was that the organizations I aid, tend to progress and thrive. When I depart, they wilt unable to effectively progress. You speak of wisdom, but yet you continue to form assumptions which are in themselves formed from ignorance.

Wisdom is possessed when one is capable of using his knowledge, logic, and experience in tandem. As you mentioned yourself, my knowledge is not in question. My experience is also quite vast, as before mentioned. I've raised many groups, and ran them quite well. I've learned from failings, and incorporated those lessons into my already vast knowledge. Logic can always be questioned, considering logic is largely based on ones perception and experiences.

You do not desire the position, and thus you're unmotivated. You've no vision nor goals. You offer no progression, you seek to halt it by arguing for the sake of argument. Not for the sake of betterment.

Luthon smirks from the audience as he speaks, simply standing there.

"Assuming I left due to failure is largely uneducated assumptions..."

He wags his finger once again.

"To assume I left due to the potential failure of my prior organizations is a largely uneducated assumption. That would be a superior and more grammatically correct alternative."

He once again rises to the podium, resting his hands upon the table as he looks over everyone.

"Your history suggests your experience is, as you say, vast. But judging from what you've said so far I would guess that you learned nothing. My debate with you is not of malicious intent, or of mindless argument. It is to keep the city functioning in all regards in the middle of an overly dramatic coup. I am motivated by the potential of prosperity, by the maehr'sae hiylun'ehya and nothing else. It is the maehr'sae hiylun'ehya that forms the foundation of all of my goals, as it should for every pure individual. To say I do not offer or seek progression is to call me impure, a grave offense made more so by the fact that I am not. I would advise you accuse your kin of such heinousness sparingly, and privately."

He then looks directly to Kalameet.

"You are right, Kalameet, on one matter. I do not desire the position. This is a call to action for others to compete."

Your reasoning's for this debate are hollow to me. You speak of intent, but then you admit you do not desire the position. Which in turn would mean you've a lack of drive. The difference between you and I is this: I seek to progress the Mali'thill and their knowledge on magic and such workings. Whilst you seek the position only because I do. Not to progress, but only to halt progression. I've proven my leading ability, you have not.

Regardless, I'll wait for those who seek to challenge me. As there is one I'm certain who will.

Luthon sighs, bringing his thumb and forefinger to the bridge of his nose.

"Think again about the last part of my speech, the second to last paragraph. It is written for your convenience."

You sought to debate, so I'm offering a debate. For simplicity sakes, I'll reiterate.

You want the position because you rather I didn't have said position. You have no drive, nor goals with said position. You don't want the position. Naturally, one applies themselves more when they enjoy their line of work. Just because you don't like the words that I'm using, doesn't devalue them.

Lorien Vesitza pulls out a bag of popcorn, summons a seat of frozen water to lounge upon and grins at the two people debating.

After watching the debate go on, and cool down (later on, after this post) he would announce:

"I think Kalameet would do well as Okarir'tayna!"

If such a position were to exist it would need to wait until the proper facilities were constructed.

This much is clear, but not fully required immediately. I wished to show my interest in such a position, so that plans could be made.

Salazar watches both mali'ahreal intently as they argue and debate over who should be the Okarir'tanya. The sounds of their voices are soon drowned out by his as he rises, his voice commanding attention. "I challenge Kalameet for this position as well. While he is a fair wizard in his own right, perhaps the position requires someone fresh of mind and fresh of ideas, for progress cannot be achieved if the old is renewed over and over. Sometimes it is best to let those with potential have a try is it not?"

Kalameet would turn his gaze, staring coldly with his grey eyes

"Don't call me a Wizard, as I'm not one. I don't use some sort of catalysk, I don't use a pointless wand or focal for my magic. If anything most mages would be considered sorcerers, or sorceress'."

Kalameet would cross his gauntleted arms.

"Perhaps a fine description of what the Okarir'tayna entails is in order. Is it one who teaches, or one who simply holds the most knowledge?"

"I believe the Okarir'tanya should function as a holder of knowledge, guardian of its use, and teacher of it within the cihi." Salazar speaks plainly, meeting Kalameet's gaze with dark green eyes.
