The County of Aldersberg

Index

Recruitment - Some information on how you can become a resident of Aldersberg.

Titles - Various titles of officials within the county.

Events - Scheduled things that happen often, from festivals to council meetings.

Note

When filling out a census form, mail it to an official. Even if you were a member of the militia, already own land, or were previously registered as a serf, fill out a form again. After an Elven week, those who own property that are not registered may have property seized.

Recruitment

Are you interested in joining the militia, or even the esteemed Count’s bodyguard? Maybe, you would like to be a simple resident of the county, a serf… or perhaps you want a chance at striking it rich, and are interested in joining a guild! Regardless of your personal interests, Aldersberg surely has something for you.

Guard Recruitment

Aldersberg’s guard is the lone military force within the county. They are tasked with enforcing laws, following the orders of the constabulary, and protecting Olivier de Savoie.

Why to join- Lead by the Constable, the Guard is tasked with protection of the county and its people. Guards are given ferrum weapons, free housing, and loot or payment in times of war or other disrest. The leaders who can recruit you are as follows:

The Constable, Emhyr de Norfolk

The Lieutenant, Hythen de Kaldonia

Sergeant, Humphrey Clarke

Sergeant, Ulric Irolkon

A full roster of the General |Guard can be given upon request (pm this account). It is kept private for obvious reasons.

Guild Recruitment

Right now, there are no registered guilds within Aldersberg. However, the county is looking for capable individuals interested in promoting trade and managing serfs. If you are interested in becoming a grandmaster of a guild, send a letter to the Advisory Council or directly to the Count. An application will be given for you to fill out, then the Advisory Council and the Count will review it.

There are also vassal houses of de Savoie that recruit serfs often. These are men of noble descent who swear fealty to the de Savoie family. While there are a good few of these, such as house Briarwood, there are not that many which have set up shop in Athera as of yet. Here is a list, along with some information:

Serf Recruitment

Are you interested in free housing, food, and protection from bandits or other fiends in return for nothing more than contributing to the general welfare of a county full of good folk? If so, you may want to become a basic serf of Aldersberg! As a serf, you are able to own land, to join the Militia or a Guild, and to make petitions to the County or his Advisory Council. Serfs can join a few different types of groups, which offer various benefits. These are:

  • Houses - A serf may register with a vassal house of the Count’s, de Savoie. In doing so, the Head of House may offer them payment, materials, or other compensation in return for general labor or other service. What this reward may be depends on a few factors. The house may be looking for laborers to gather materials in the hopes of selling them; they may act only as nobles, managing their land and renting owned properties; or they may do a variety of other things. Regardless, they should have posters about explaining what their serfs do.

  • Guard - There are different wages of Guard service, based on performance. As a result, there are different benefits. However, anyone who is capable with arms, a leal servant of the county, and a devout follower of the church may join the Guard as a recruit, working their way up the ranks. Guardsmen are assured free ferrum weaponry and chainmail, be it an axe or sword; they are given ⅓ off of all of their taxes; they may also live tax free in the barracks if they please.

  • Guilds - Guilds are non-noble organizations that are primarily mercantile in nature. They may gather raw resources, such as lumber or stone, then sell them to buy more tools and make bank; they might buy iron and turn it into armenants; or they might be a very general group. For example, there could be a laborer’s union, ensuring that serfs under guilds or vassal houses are not abused by their employers. Guilds generally offer payment or other things to their employees.

Titles

The Count, Olivier de Savoie - The Count is the sole leader of the county. He is a noble of Oren, and answers to the Emperor. His word is law within the county. While the Advisory is able to suggest changes or other things to him, he has full right to veto anything they suggest. On top of this, he is the Master at Arms of the Militia, and all Officers answer to him.

The Advisory - These men are, under the Count, the leaders of Aldersberg. They are tasked with the management of domestic affairs within the county, and are meant to govern the county for the Count. Their duties may vary, and are largely small. They may handle anything from the upkeep of the Count’s physical household - his keep - to the maintenance of roads or other things within the county.

The Seneschal, Sylvestre Halcourt - The manager of the county in the Count’s absence. He generally administers the County, but is unable to make any important decisions without the Count’s approval. The primary purpose of the Seneschal is to manage real estate and oversee the town, ensuring that everyone is doing their work. There are also two Stewards under him that help with the maintenance of the county and taxation. They are:

The Steward, Gereon de Savoie

The Steward, Mieszko

The Chamberlain, Leufroy de Savoie - The chamberlain is the keeper of the Count’s chambers, along with the treasury. He is meant to ensure that the Count is safe and comfortable, plus that the treasury is full and well protected. All funds for the county are given to him to manage and, in the Count’s stead, he is in charge of the delegation of minae to the militia and other bodies.

The Herald, Ciera Lefevre  - The announcer of important events or other things within the county. On top of this, the herald is charged with maintenance of public events; for example, they are in charge of holding feasts, or the organization of festivals. While the office of the Seneschal and Chamberlain are always men, it is acceptable for the Herald to be a female.

The Architect, Maxim Laclaire - The man tasked with the upkeep of the county, and the expansion of it through the erection of new buildings. On top of this, the Architect is tasked with the upkeep of roads within the county, the maintenance of public buildings, and aiding the Herald in the gathering of supplies for feasts, festivals, or other such things.

The Officers - Grizzled veterans of war, these people lead the Militia. While the official rank is Officer, each Officer has a specific title, and is tasked with the management of a specific force. As a result, some Officers are of a higher prestige than others. However, within Militia meetings, all Officers hold equal power. Sergeants or other second in commands of different forces formally have a third as much power as an Officer.

The Constable, Emhyr de Norfolk - The constable is tasked with protection of the county and its people. His job is to protect the people of the county, maintain a standing guard force, and to guard the count along with his noble family against any and all foes. His second in command is the Lieutenant, and then there are also two Sergeants below him. These are:

The Lieutenant, Hythen de Kaldonia

The Sergeant, Augustus Fournier

The Sergeant, Ulric Irolkon

The Grandmasters - While these leaders of the guilds do not hold official power, they have the potential to influence common dictation of the county. Grandmasters are meant to upkeep specific, niche guilds that promote economic activity within the county. A guild could be for anything from general craftsmen - stonemasons or blacksmiths, for example - to gatherers - farmers or lumberjacks. Guilds are able to negotiate various benefits for being registered within the county with the officials.

None, none - No guilds have been made, as of yet.

Events

Festivals - These are various celebrations held often in Aldersberg.

The Festival of the Saint Owyn- A martial festival held in honor of the True Faith and Saint Owyn. A tournament is also usually held. Held once every Elven week.

The Tribute to the Emperor - A holiday held in celebration of our glorious, divine emperor.  It is held once every Elven month.

Meetings - The Advisory or the Officers’ discussion and decision on important topics. Mostly, they are public.

The Advisory - Members of the Advisory must meet on a weekly (rl) basis to discuss important matters. These include the allocation of materials, the delegation of grandmastership, and other such things. Common folk are allowed to sit in on the meeting unless told otherwise, as long as they remain quiet.

The Officers - At least once every five Elven days during peace-time, and at least once every three Elven days during war-time, the Officers meet and decide important things involving the Militia. This could be anything from the promotion of a new Officer and the creation thus of a new force within the Militia to the maximum amount of men allowed per force. Unless explicitly stated, these meetings are always private.
