RK9ify 86 Author Share Posted January 24, 2015 It's not like that, you forgot the pvp default part. *facepalm* How could I forget!? When you're lockpicking a door, remember to declare PvP default on the door and countdown, guys! Same goes for the pocket! Declare PvP default on the pocket and kill it! That right there is how you RP thieving!

Tadmonster 54 Share Posted January 25, 2015 I thought lockpicking was banned unless it's a raid?

~ Fiend ~ 611 Share Posted January 25, 2015 "Lockpicking" these days actually goes something like this. Evil McGee tries to kick down door. Evil McGee rolled a 4 out of 20. Evil McGee tries again. Evil McGee rolled a 1 out of 20. Evil McGee tries again. Evil McGee rolled a 17 out of 20. [LOOC][VIP] Evil_McGee: open the door I honestly haven't seen anyone try harder since early Anthos when there were VAs still. Also, raids are not a thing right now Side note, though, please don't encourage rolling for pickpocketing. Just roleplay it like anything else, if you're good enough in terms of providing an interesting mental image people will often go along with it. Roll villainy feels like a cop-out to me.
Heff 2460 Share Posted January 25, 2015 When i was a thief/burglar its roleplay not rollplay. Never roll, your their for the person's enjoyment so let them decide. Only roll for lockpicking.
RK9ify 86 Author Share Posted January 25, 2015 I agree with you on the rolling thing but it sort of makes it a little bit easier for newer players to grasp the whole pick pocketing thing, first. Once they improve their RP they can stop rolling, I suppose.

ScreamingDingo 20568 Share Posted January 27, 2015 Being a thief is something you should not do when you're new. I'm going to place that flat out unless you know how to roleplay. Being a thief doesn't rely on your ooc gain, but it is to provide roleplay, as with every other villain. Do not lockpick if you don't have any idea how to emote it, it makes me cry when I see the ol', "puts pick into lock" "tries again" "tries to break a lock with a lone pick." I do not really try to do any thieving or roleplay with picklocking because I actually have no idea what types of locks are accepted in LotC, not just the basic tumbler systems or warded systems. Also pickpocketing is always depending on the victim, roleplay as they want you to roleplay. Let /them/ decide what is lost, if you do a well enough job, you'll definitely gain something. If not, well you have to learn how to talk yourself out of situations, as a thief does. Roleplay is dynamic, do not let it be decided by chance, let it be decided by the participating parties
Ferri 3 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Try to add these videos about lockpicking and also some details about a lock, components of a lock, how to rp on a shielded lock, etc.. I think the medieval era doesn`t had locks like that, but in any case. http://gyazo.com/ec7b34a0041a11a227644ccb7665c835
