Supremacy

Sometimes, Asul'athri did not sleep. Sometimes he walked alone down the dark path of Healun'or, along the cliff-tops. When he deemed it safe, he was not in the city at all. He was a man of many and few words, of light and of darkness. Of silver and of gold. He was akin to few before him whom walked many paths - he had shone brightly and he had darkened considerably. He was pure, and he was tarnished.

How could so many things be true, he wonders, when they all would at first contradict?

It has been many years since he last killed a fellow elf, a man, anything at all. Longer still since he had taken up gold to defend himself against the unnatural monsters which were once his field of study.

Sometimes the howls of the fallen haunt his mind still. Friends turned enemies. Enemies turned friends. And still he devotes himself to his cihi.

There were, of course, those in the city who did not trust him. He does not blame them, though - he is, after all, something of an enigma.

Nonetheless, he swore his oath. Even retired, that oath still stands. He would keep the city safe.

By light or by dark.

Once upon a time, Asul'athri walked the night. And then the day. Then night and day again.

A cycle. Circles which come, round and around and around, and this one seems to start again.

Time to walk the night again. A blade in the dark - not a mass but a fragment of silver. Yes.

He would pierce his enemy's heart. As he once did before. As he will do again.

He looks up at the moon, an iron-headed battle-staff, old and worn, in his left hand. He draws what appears to be a Raevir arming sword of elven make with his right hand, and it glows with a soft, golden light.

iyathanthae ito haelun'or.

For there shall be nothing where something still reigns.
