Adrian Identity and Values

Adrian men and women can be defined by their diverse cultural beginnings, rather than by physical appearance. Descended from the noble stock of West Anthosian Oren, the blood of the Sarkozic, Raevir, Savoyard, and Auvergnian peoples flows through the veins of the settlers of the Adrian Mountains, who maintain a culture rich with tradition, history, and faith.

An Adrian mind resonates with a liberal freedom of choice and debate tempered by reason. The Codex Lacobianus, the criminal code, first conceived by Jacques de Montfort at the request of Baron Paul de Montfort, defines the blacks and whites in Adrian society, protecting citizen and lord alike, and is open to reasonable change by a lawful assembly of Adrian representatives or by the Ducal Council itself.

Territories and Practices

Adrian culture derives primarily from its people's heritage and its locale, driven by the many hardships incurred by their ancestors and the migrations to the area during the Renatian Rebellions. As a result, congregation and assembly have become fixtures in Adria. What started out as a definite necessity for survival of the society has turned into a staple of Adrian life.

---

Linguistically influenced by the Sarkozic tongue of High Ruska, the writings and orations of the people of Montfort, Woldzmir, Aleksgrad, Prophet’s Peak, East Cyraium, and Maker’s Wood mark important milestones in Orenian literature.

--

In Montfort, Adrians are also adept farmers, a product of living along the great Ebunad River and tributaries that flow throughout Southern Oren. Much of the nation’s grain and supply of crops come from Adria, a result of its high levels of productivity and steadfast loyalty to the King.

-

To the north of Montfort, in the Fortress of Woldzmir, the winter-hardened men of Vladovic uphold the time-honored Adrian military tradition. Woldzmir houses the 1st Adrian Regiment and is also a leader in enchantments and runic writing, due to the immense knowledge gained from libraries discovered when the Vladovic peoples first began settling the region. The men of Woldzmir are also adept in matters of the smithy, as a result of their decades of experience in fighting. Many took up the practical military trade and proceeded to master it in all its intricacies.

-

In the farthest north of Adria, in the chilly reaches of Owynswood, the unique practice of animal husbandry has become an art form. Mostly dabbling in the cultivation of animals, this recent addition to the Adrian dukedom provides much in the way of meat. Mutton, lamb, pork, and veal are just some of what one might expect of the majority of the County’s markets. Wild game is also seen in Owynswood's boreal forests, darting through the area, as are horses in the County's stables.

-

Finally, below the traditional eastern holdings of Adria lie the southernmost territories and freeholds of Estermarsh. Those conglomerations provide many of the already valued staples that exist in Adria, as well as loyal men and sustainable fisheries.

--

Around the age of fourteen, Adrian children formally swear to uphold the Codex Lacobianus and essentially start training. Councils are held with certain trials and experiences to find the aptitudes of every young Adrian. Children are given appropriate apprenticeships and studies, and many end up with traditional practices of combat or mercantile varieties.

The Ducal Council

The Council’s function is to provide a coherent governing body to the Duchy. It serves to give voice to the various Adrian Electors, whom in turn assist their elected Duke in the administration of the Dukedom. Usual Electors are that of the land holding populace with exceptions being made only through general consensus of the Ducal Council or by appointment via the Duke himself. That said here are those who are appointed and recognized as electors or councilmen.
