CosmicWhaleShark 2488 Author Share Posted March 26, 2015 Well, there goes. Can I have a Silus II.? Sure thing man, sorry he had a crummy run. It was seriously a super lucky shot, I think at that range my heavies had like a 20% shot. The fact that they got a critical behind cover was just ridiculous. CosmicWhaleShark 2488 Author Share Posted March 27, 2015 This mission... Phew, this mission. Operation Sacred Breath is a specific Enemy Within mission where you need to recover a survivor at a location that was compromised, it leads up to discovering the alien sympathizers, EXALT. This mission had a single sectoid, and twelve thin men. At higher difficulties thin men are notorious for squad kills and we had quite a few close calls, and unfortunately one fatality. The squad - Phaedrus and Craotor made their first appearances for this mission. For this mission I decided to put my sniper in an ideal position so that she had coverage across the main contact zones during the entire operation. To support her up top, in case aliens dropped down on her rooftop, I sent Hunter up with her. Hunter unfortunately was killed in the first firefight when a thin man on the low ground got a shot off and six damage, he was done. Dorian Hunter - 0 kills - 2 missions - KIA Operation Sacred Breath - thin man plasma rifle We cleaned up the rest of the aliens and located the survivor. That's when the second wave of aliens hit. A sectoid and a thin man in cover, as I predicted, took positions on Elorna's roof top. They instantly took overwatch as they annoyingly ******* do, and Elorna was outflanked. Worried about taking a second fatality during this mission I improvised and to my surprise, succeeded. Using my support, Leonard, to my advantage I threw a smoke grenade to provide limited coverage to Elorna's exposed position. But more importantly, it also provided coverage to the way to get access to the roof from my side. Overwatch is triggered from movement, and only in special cases do attacks trigger an overwatch. Neither the sectoid nor the thin man had the skill necessary to do this, so to prepare for my next move, I used Elorna's grenade to take out the sectoid, a guaranteed kill at their measly three health points. With a stroke of luck, I used run and gun on my assault trooper and squad leader, Phaedrus. He gained access to the roof, triggered the thin man's overwatch, but under the cover of Leonard's smoke grenade he managed to avoid the extremely deadly plasma blasts. The hit percentage was not promising, and the thin man was under cover. But due to the fact that Phaedrus was not in cover, he received no aiming penalties himself, and managed to dispatch the roof top thin man in a single shot, securing Elorna's position and preventing a second death in the squad. A true group effort. Also, this is what damage roulette is. A thin man running out of cover gets hit by a sniper rifle and only receives one damage point. **** damage roulette. The third wave of aliens hit us and Elorna took a critical hit. Luckily however she was not dead, merely in critical condition. After securing the vicinity around her I sent Leonard up and he stabilized her. The survivor was secure on the shuttle and all the aliens were dead. Despite losing Dorian in the first engagement the mission was overall an outstanding success, in my opinion. As you can see, though, no one came out of this without at least a few bumps and bruises. All those in sick bay currently. I will be recruiting more soldiers! So keep the characters coming if you would like to see your person in game.
