A salty, cold breeze blows over black waves. Lorina strikes a match and lights a single candle. Careful not to let wax drip on her fingers, she lowers the candle into a tiny paper boat and lets it loose on the dark water. A single light amidst a dark abyss.

"I hope you make it home safely, Viktoriya," she whispers to nothing but the wind.

Lorina puts the finishing touches on her letter and passes it off to one of the church's carrier pigeons.

"Dear God, please protect Lilya from her own foolishness. I do not want her children to be orphans," she sighs.

Lorina hands the carefully sealed letter off to the courier. "Make sure this reaches him by tonight," she whispers. "I will pay extra if you are swift." The courier nods and dashes off. Lorina clasps her hands in prayer, hoping only that it reaches its destination.

Lorina returns home to her church. She lets out a sigh, looking at the rest of the mess she still had to clean up before the funeral.

Lorina sighs as she tries to wash the bloodstains out of her white habit. What exactly HAD happened in Felsen? Her mind was a blank.

Lorina sits at her tiny writing desk in her tiny room, scribbling away on various sheets of paper. The candle in her candle holder burned low, its dish overflowing with wax. Outside, the stars twinkled above a calm ocean.
