Isolation Within The Walls

The Sohaer stands above the gates of Haelun'or, looking down at the crowd of diligently working mali'aheral. A brief smile sets in as he readies himself for what he is about to say. He surveys the crowd as the supplies are prepared for transportation. After a few minutes, the messenger finally arrives, informing him the last sheets of glass had been placed. Finally, he stepped forward confidently, speaking down to his citizens.

 

 

Citizens of Haelun'or, today I have a rather important announcement to make. You have worked diligently to serve Haelun'or in our time of need, and today we mark a turning point in our time upon this new land.

 

On the 6th day of The Deep Cold, 1513, we have completed the walls of our new citadel. All may reside within the walls once more, protected from the impurity of the realm without. We shall have isolation once more, such that we may pursue the maehr'sae hiylun'ehya without uncontrolled interference. You have done us a great deed today, mali'aheral of Haelun'or.

 

However, this is not the end of our efforts. Though we have walls, much still needs doing. Housing is not yet prepared, our roof is only partially complete, and we do not yet have the means to maintain ourselves! Work must continue, for it is necessary in pursuit of the maehr'sae hiylun'ehya.

 

Sharpen your hatchets, repair your picks, or maintain the kilns that heat our stone. There is more to be done. We have made progress, but we will not stop here.

 

Maehr'sae hiylun'ehya!

 

 

He watches as the elves below echo his final phrase, cheering for the success of their civilization. A smile crosses his face, satisfied but there work. But there was still work to be done. He reaches for the pickaxe concealed by the ledge, heading back toward the mines.

From far atop the walls, struggling down brick after brick of yet another tower a single, lone voice echoes downward. 

 

"Maehr'sae hiylun'ehya.."

 

Afterward the continued clanking of bricks and slurred insults of a tired mali'aheral remain present, growing ever louder.

Kelthran continues to hammer away at the walls of his mining shaft, likely not even present for the announcement.

 

Upon his next trip to drop off more stone, he hears the news. With a brief nod, he retreats back into his nigh-endless shaft, uttering only a single phrase.

 

"Maehr'sae hiylun'ehya."
