ski_king3 0 Share Posted July 20, 2015 Laethis sits quietly in the dimly lit room, the walls that would partition this space into several homes yet to be constructed. Much had happened in the past days; a problematic Council member fallen, his kin Ruiri had resurfaced, and Laethis had found new friends to assist him in his goals. By all counts, things were going well for him. Yet the elf was ashamed. The critiques of him and his regime were true. The Traditionalists had abandoned Tradition through every action. The tithe, public shaming, and the tolerance of the lesser races, all yielding a worse and worse reputation for the so-called arbiters of tradition. Impurity rested confidently within the walls, tradition was hardly enforced. The most liberal regime in Haelun'or's history, a common critique by many. Little did the foolish critics know... It is the slow knife that cuts deepest. He raises a hand for silence among the onlookers, standing at the podium before his citizens. They had all been rounded up once more for another speech from their Sohaer. As the masses ceased their quiet gossip and whispered conversation in the center of the Citadel, the Sohaer would step forward. "I speak to you today, citizens of Haelun'or, to disseminate an understanding of tradition. Many have criticized my regime for an lack of adherence to tradition and conservative values, going as far as to say that we have failed in this endeavor entirely. Those who make this claim will cite governmental changes, such as the tithe or public shaming, as evidence to this straying from tradition. However, these assertions fail to recognize the historical and cultural importance surrounding the use of coin and public criticism of others. In Haelun'or, no citizen requires coin. We took this cultural imperative a step further and demanded coin from our citizen for a variety of purposes important to Haelun'or. Though one might argue that shaming citizens for not adhering to this is inappropriate, the needs of the State demanded coin while the needs of the citizen did not. We are not bortu. The course of action was simple. Though these claims can easily be countered, perhaps the more salient claims are those of a laxity regarding cultural tradition. Lessers are allowed within the city more often, and citizens often fail to follow proper pure cultural norms. Critics of the former fail to realize that tradition is like a well thought out text. Though the initial idea is excellent, it must be rigorously reviewed and edited to improve upon the mistakes of the past. This is categorically important in the pursuit of progress. My regime is a single revision of this text that is our tradition. If one stops mid-revision, the half-finished product will seem malformed and inconsistent. However, given time, the text will come to be cohesive once more, and enhance the impressiveness of the original. To the critics regarding the latter, I tell you that we reside in a time amidst revision where the conclusion cannot yet be judged." The Sohaer scans the crowd once more, yet now something had clearly changed. The typical calculating Sohaer of tepid emotion wore a grin of ambition upon his face. The creatures eyes glistened, as if he could see his goal just before him, his entirety lusting for what was to come. "From this day forth, we begin the Silver Age of Haelun'or." The elf pauses to listen to the murmurs of those watching amid the courtyard. His grin broadens at the sound of mixed reactions, taking note of those who express discontent. "I will keep the remainder of my remarks short. Today, Haelun'or begins an Age of unprecedented progress. The laxity in upholding traditional behavior shall cease. Agents of purity already seek out those who would pretend themselves pure mali’aheral within our walls. Though changes shall occur, they will remain in line with the values of the true and pure mali'thilln. If you are impure and comfortable within our Citadel, be afraid. Your ilk shall be purged, and you shall not stop us. If you seek to rend our State asunder, be afraid. Your bombs do not fragment Silver, and you shall not stop us. If you refuse to assist blessed Haelun'or, be afraid. Your laziness will not persist, and you shall not stop us. Through research, diligence and labor, we shall achieve that which has previously only been reached in our most extravagant dreams. Today, our Silver Age dawns. Maehr'sae hiylun'ehya!" Laethis pauses, scanning the crowd once more with hungering eyes as several elves repeat his call. Other comments are made, and each is noted. After a few moments, he makes a motion of his hand, a Sillumir arriving at each side of him. "To those interested, the first act of our Silver Age occurs on the Northwest Isle. Come and see what our blessed Haelun'or has in store." With this, the elf turns and departs, heading for the Northwest Isle with his guard. _mkkk_ 194 Share Posted July 20, 2015 Bae'sari seems to applaud, nodding and her view of this figure starting to change after his expression altering to maybe one of a mere childish spirit "Mali'aheral shall reign" she says, not too loud but in delegation of his promises and speech! ((I say you should have called it "A Midnight's Dream" like MLK and also like the painting. . . since you are creative ;D ))
