The Nexus-Prince Emerges

"You will call me Ultris Vex."

 

"I am Nexus-Prince Ultris. Lord of my people. Myself, and my advisers, are all that exist as such. The rest were destroyed long ago. The same fate awaits your kind should you be allowed to continue."

 

"Your ascension.. What did it cost you?" Avenel asked.

 

"Should you listen, High Elf. My ascension is a boon, bar the loss of physical form. The price it demanded in return was my entire civilization... There are more of my kind. Survivors. You will meet them in time."

The beast, the Nexus Stalker, fell cold upon the floor - an aurum blade lodged within its throat. The humming of the surrounding gems and arcane binds ceased, and a great explosion of magic resounded about the group. A rift tore in space that day, and through it walked a being yet unseen in any of the descendants' realms.

 

The fight was brutal. A wild, teleporting beast - a violet panther with gemstone teeth. Its maw bit into one of ours. Edwin Sarino. It pulled him into a rift and came out with naught but scorched bone. A quick death... a horrifying, grizzly death.

 

Vengeance was wrought upon the beast, and its mists spread into the sky as naught but mana. A rift, and a being emerged. Its name, Ultris Vex. He preached the undoing of the descendants, should they continue on the path of magic, and called the magi forward.

 

He spoke of his defeated culture, of his few remaining people. He told of plans to rally the four races against the terrors of the void, and against the encroaching corruption of their realm. The crystals around him vibrated, coursing with powerful, latent energies, and he vanished just as quickly as he emerged - taking all of the corruption with, save for a few crystals held in the hands of the magi.
