Meditating with the mage

Outside the gregarious city of Al-Wakhrah, away from the noise, away from the heat, in a small forest, sat the mage Beranabus Seregon and another potential student. They sat on smooth rocks by a secluded pond within, their legs crossed in a meditative position. The student, a nervous but curious little halfling, named Winky Butterbum. The mage began to directing Winky, handing a strange but alluring orb with unusual mists within, the colours changing upon contact. Holding the orb comfortably, Winky closed his eyes feeling a sense of calm slowly wash over him. Beranabus began to talk to the halfling, easing him into meditation, with each word echoing in his mind. The ambience of the forest soon began to disappear from Winky’s mind, the frogs, the trees, the cool breeze faded. The only sound left was the peaceful voice of the mage growing in his mind. To Winky, day became night, night became day, the halfling staying there as the cycle repeated. With no option left but to open his eyes, Winky peaked his eyes open to see yellow mists seeping out of the orb and surrounding his body. Looking around, complete silence, with Beranabus noticeably not being there.

Suddenly a flash of colours appeared, followed by the feeling of falling towards the very pool of ever-changing colours. Splashing deep into the pool,  Winky continued sinking deeper, a small bright opening below which he sunk through. The bright light of the opening blinds him for a second, as he landed on something soft like wool as his eyes adjust to what appears in front of him. He looked down to see that he was riding comfortably on wonderfully white cloud, soaring over an endless field of golden wheat. A warming feeling flowed through him as he looked down to see a single hobbit hole in the middle of the field with a sense of nostalgia.

He looked up to see the upcoming clouds before him, forming into the shape of a giant bearded man, slowly morphing to become solid as he flew closer. The giant smiled as the halfling collided with the giant’s long grey beard, Winky’s cloud evaporating and dissipating behind him. The beard consumed him and buried him deeper into the fluffy ticklishness as all turns to darkness. Winky steps forward, no exit in sight, he turned but soon forgot which direction he came in, he turned once more to see a curious door under a spotlight. As he made his way unknowingly towards the door, a sudden stabbing pain to the back of the head followed by the flash of white light. Winky in a panic awakens to realise he was lying on his back on the floor, his head on the rock behind him. Beranabus let out a small chuckle and explained how he lost his balance. The halfling promptly stood up in confusion, looking to the sky to see that it was only sunset, his thoughts became clearer. Winky realised it was all a dream, a dream which made no sense to him, he looked to the mage for guidance, who took back the orb and removed a parchment from his pocket. Tearing off a piece, he handed it to Winky and told him to write on the paper when things become clearer. Putting on his shoes and smiling Beranabus left the halfling in his confused state with more questions than answers.

Winky went back to his hobbit hole and sat down by the fire with a calming cup of tea, pondering over his dream as he gradually began to remember what he saw. He took the small parchment taking it to his desk, dipping his fine quill into the inkwell as began to write to Beranabus with means to contact him.
