A Proposal on Citing the Canon

Spoiler

ebbo_gospels_matthew1.jpg

Preface:

An acolyte is required to create a thesis on a section of the Canon to be considered for the church. Though this is titled proposal, it also serves as my thesis.

GOD’s word is above all, and it should be incorporated into our speech, writings, and art. All references should, however, be cited properly so that any church member may easily find the passage from which the text is taken.

Citing the Holy Scrolls:

Name of the Receiver  Topic/Canticle Number:Verse Number

Examples:

“So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid thee, My faithful, this: Thou shalt not blaspheme My Name nor Word, nor any thing that is holy.” Horen 1:4

“And to ye magicians I admonish: GOD is incomprehensible. He cannot be divided nor made again, and his mysteries are the holy mysteries, and no art is alike to his power.”

Owyn 7:2

“So it was that the plan of Iblees was foiled. Yet the sin of murder soaked the earth, and he rose again from the Void. And the Denier ensnared Saul in his chains, and the impostor’s body stood again, and was unholy. And again, Iblees cast his out his chains and took up the bodies of the other fallen, and they rose to serve him. And thus marshalled, the forces of the Denier attacked the brothers and the pure of the tribes, and a great war ensued, and all suffered.” Godfrey 2:14

“So treadeth forth from the Skies the prophets of GOD, and in their company the virtuous dead. And here the faithful are lifted up and marshaled” Siegmund 2:11

No man may cite a holy verse and include only a part of it. The ENTIRE verse must be cited, even if referring to only one part of it.

Citing Other Canon Writings:

 Title Paragraph Number:Sentence Number

Examples:

“He is regarded to have countless names rooted in countless traditions, but nonetheless is the same all-powerful figure, the creator of the universes.” Dogma 1:2

“Eventually, the Horen dynasty ground to a halt, their last scion abdicating only to be replaced by the House of Perea.” History of the Church 4:1

Conclusion

I humbly ask that his holiness, The High Pontiff, considers my method of citation for formal use in the Church.

Bishop Rafael of Cordobe nods, placing his stamp on this document and going to speak with Everard of it. He pens a response,

Johannes,

This is quite the suggestion and I believe it would aid in regulating the texts written by clergy. Perhaps it is best to lift the restriction of citing an entire passage, as to simplify the process and make it more understandable for laity.

Signed,

Rafael of Cordobe

Bishop of Dules

Pentarch of the Synod

Though I prefer that entire passages are cited, I will comply with your wish and edit the original text. Your eminence knows better than I. - Johannes

Everard smiles as he glances over the final bits of the proposal. The candle light dimming slightly, he pens a response.

"Congratulations is in order. I commend you on your overview Acolyte and hope that you would travel to Luciensport so we might discuss this further."
