Pav33 101 Share Posted April 29, 2016 The young nobleman-turned-clergy would look pace around his small room. Feeling at peace in the confines of his father's fortress, he'd begin to write his first of most likely many theses. His eye would finally dart to his book, bound by a leather strap older then Nikolas himself. He saw this as a vital point; whether he would continue his theological studies or not. He began drawing the all-elaborate first character, from which he'd continue to write. On Nationalism Nationalism is good nor evil. It is the very thing that shows a person's devotion to the crown and country, and can sometimes build a nation or rebuild one. But, nationalism can also have a darker tone to it, one that is often overlooked in these days of civil strife. Now, with Norland's recent use of a pestilence to prolong their petty revolt from Oren, of which I personally went through yet survived, is caused by nationalism, the very spark that has kept the ideal of a united nation of men alive over the centuries. Nationalism is simply not good nor evil. Nationalism is like a garden. The fruits and trees that grow tall are cultural and religious unity, an ideal of a united nation of that culture group. If noted and "harvested" wisely, it can increase a nations income and lower the threat of a revolt. If used correctly it can increase a nation's production, because peasants appeased with the government will have no ideas of revolts and will work harder. But, sadly, there is not as simple as that. John Sigismund has proven his worthiness to hold the throne. His father drained the realms funds and military force for his feuds with the dwarves, but John II has managed to strengthen the economy, and the empire. But, Avar's unholy revolution came quite unexpectedly and has little reason. Avar's revolt can be simply categorized as unholy, unneeded, and outright foolish. It is the very nationalism that has fueled Oren that has attacked it. Avar feels it has been left unappreciated and their "mighty hosts" left idle for too long. Avar was elevated to ducal status, and Thomas himself was made a knight of the realm! And I may remind you that this man has attacked the pontiff! Nationalism is to be feared and loved, appreciated and hated. ~ Acolyte Nikolas "Krasimr" Kovachev

Hanrahan 2983 Share Posted April 29, 2016 "Unholy? That's a bit harsh, considering the Pontiff stopped by a few days ago, and we've welcomed a priest into the town, and even had ourselves a little mass in the midst of the rebellion.. But, I must commend this on some level, at least it's more then waving a sword around shouting 'Oolololol'..."
Caranthir_ 2533 Share Posted April 29, 2016 Njord Ruric wonders how the people of Avar were raised to a Ducal status, as this was not so, in fact the Emperor himself kept the title. He also begins to wonder how their '"mighty hosts"' were 'left idle' even though during its short term in the Holy Oren Empire the Rurics of Ostavar were the only ones fighting for the Empire, pledging their alliegence for nought but disrespect and negligence to award Ostavar with the just reward it deserved.. He then begins to wonder if this 'Thesis' is nought but a idiotc farce to impress the Emperors dull mind in a way.
Roderick Greymane / Vegas 219 Share Posted April 29, 2016 Roderick reads over the thesis, casually stroking his beard as he does so, thinking out loud he says, "While much of this is true in certain aspects, I feel as though this is a tad bit one-sided." he would take a sip from a flask at his belt. "Perhaps if this were a much simpler world then this thesis would hold some merit, however, it is not." Roderick would chuckle softly, "If anything nationalism is working together for the greater good of one's country and if either side, both in this case, decide to ignore the other instead of working out their differences then war and disorder will surely arise as it has done thus far." setting the parchment down he sighs, "If the Emperor would acknowledge his faults as well as the rebels acknowledging their own, then perhaps this issue of war wouldn't be needed, but sometimes war is the only option in order to purge the sickness and greed that takes hold in the hearts of men." he mutters to himself, "We shall have to see what this war shall fix or destroy..."
