IMPERIAL BOARD OF NOTARIES

The Imperial Board of Notaries, also known as The Scrivener’s Cabinet or ‘the board’, is an office  within the Imperial Administration that oversees the drafting of the Holy Orenian Empire’s proclamations, state sponsored missives, as well as various other works - from playwriting to tale weaving. Serving closely together to ensure the quality and quantity of material matches the pace in which developments within the Imperial Administration take place. Playing a supporting role to various offices under the Crown, the scribes are expected to eventually serve as advisors and capable councillors; their experience with all functions of government making them a wealth of knowledge.

Their services bring a quick wit and a sharp mind to the declarations of the strong handed, justified, and Divinely Chosen Imperial Estate.

Hierarchy

  • Office of The Scrivener

    • The Scrivener’s Cabinet, represented by the Imperial Scrivener

      • Senior Imperial Scribe

      • Imperial Scribe

      • Junior Scribe

Nature

Often considered to be the best educated and intellectually driven, the scribes of The Office of The Scrivener are the those who ensure the Imperial Administration’s decision making does not outpace legislation. With that, they are also given the opportunity to create state sponsored cultural works to help enrich the people of Oren. Perhaps the most flexible jobs within the Imperial Administration, scribes may perform their duties from anywhere, and are one of the few positions where interest in another Imperial Office is not discouraged.

As with all reformed government departments, oathed members of the Office of The Scrivener seeking formal transfers to another department must seek the signed permission of either the Emperor or the Archchancellor. Similarly, members seeking to resign from their post must submit a signed resignation to the Crown. Unlike other departments though, they can be employed by more than one government department simultaneously.

Current Appointments

Chief Notary: Lord Jacques d’Amaury [YA_GOY_JAMES]

Among the first consulted on any proposed legislation and on developments within the realm, the Chief Notary acts in part as an advisor to the Crown, and pool of knowledge on anything concerning the Imperial Administration. Heading the Imperial Board of Notaries, the Chief Notary also must ensure that the proficiency of the board is maintained. Due to the nature of their work, the Chief Notary may be called on to resolve various issues concerning the Empire. They also act in conjunction with many other members of His Imperial Majesty’s Closed Council to ease the strain of duties, ensuring they are appropriately handled at all times.

Senior Imperial Scribes

Diligent and eloquent, these men and women are well versed in the many different different subjects. The value of a Senior Imperial Scribe is immense, and are often encouraged to occupy another position in the Imperial Administration. With their loyalty well proven and skills unmatched, these men may even be entrusted to review or write documents for His Imperial Majesty's Closed Council. Senior Imperial Scribes also act as editors for their peers, and are the only persons within the Imperial Board of Notaries who are allowed to approve of works other than the Chief Notary itself.

Imperial Scribes

Proven writers in their own right, Imperial Scribes are entrusted to write a plethora of documents pertaining to public life. Often seen as having the potential to eventually become dignitaries, these men and women are watched closely as they work. Encouraged to also do independent work to hone their craft, they may accept jobs outside of the Imperial Board of Notaries with the blessing of the Chief Notary.

Junior Scribes

Fresh additions left largely unproven, Junior Scribes are guided in their work to help improve and evaluate their skills. Actively involved in the ongoing works of the Imperial Board of Notaries, the role of Junior Scribes is largely one of a student. Junior Scribes will be trusted to do many tasks and draft missives and other works that may be unrelated to the duties officially entrusted in the board, as to help promote themselves and their craft.
