JOHANNESBURG ARENA DISTRICT

This district of the city is the pride of the empire, built upon the solid stone foundations of humanities most glorious. The Arena District provides pure gore and entertainment to all whom find a home in any corner of the Empire. Brave warriors from the deep damp marshes of Savoy, the southernmost borders of the heartland, and beyond even the farthest reaches of Oren’s northern holdings.

Upholding the long held martial traditions of Oren, both friendly and injurious competition will be allowed within our great arena’s walls. Be it a joust or trial by combat, the arena will oft be the stage of observable conflicts for the citizens and guests of Johannesburg.

An annual recall to the capital to compete for prestige, packing the city with the presence of citizens from across the holdings of the Empire. The district is host to countable events, racing and tourney proceedings, along with a smatter of other activities.

Racing as mentioned is a very popular sport within the capital, attracting hordes of gentry and nobility alike to the number of equestrian competitions in which to compete. Within the city's hippodrome they dash for glory on mares of all comely shapes, and sturdy sizes. The event is also popular especially amongst the women of the realm, no bloodletting takes place and riders are oft pondered upon by both the married and maidens alike. The Jockeys of the realm rest easy, as fame awaits those who ride in skillful style, whether peasant, gentry, or any of the like.

But so too are more traditional sports honored with equal fame involved. Since fleeing but another continent, keep heart. Humanity still keeps with tradition. Within the district the Joust is still prevalent. Though quartered off as a sport for the nobility the proceeding is watched on by crowds of all kinds. Clad in glimmering steel plate, their horses adorned with sigils, Knights of the realm clash. The loud crack of lances isn’t heard as oft as the Empire’s time in Vailor. But once every year the nobles of the realm flock en masse to the capital to compete in it’s Grand Tourney.

The last of the noteworthy events held in the capital is that of the melee. Another sport open to all the warriors of the realm, men of all backgrounds come to the main arena to compete for hefty title, those victors are dubbed ‘Champion of the Empire.’ and given incredible prestige by its prospect. Alike the Joust, both are entwined into the Grand Tourney of the realm, and only happen every now and again.

Still the arena is host to many minor brawls, as any combat on foot is a spectacle for the locals, and those looking for the culture shock of the city.

The district also finds itself home to many vendors, having flocked to the specific sector of the city in order to profit off of it’s many rivalries. Throughout the riddled roads of the Arena district grizzled armors, weaponsmiths, and leather workers sell their wares to all comers. Their colorful and sometimes ratty shops littered throughout.

Whether you’re a squire on the slide, a pagan looking for decent steel, or a full blown Knight of the Realm, all find themselves at home in the advantageous merchants that make a living there.

As part of the duties of the Imperial Gamemaster, event coordination and maintenance of the arena itself will find itself committed to under their guidance. Event proposals or requests to hold an event will be reviewed by the Imperial Gamemaster as well.

Those wishing to staff the arena and adjacent vendors may apply to do so, or seek the stewards servicing the region. Some residences may find themselves reserved by the Gamemaster himself for workers and career fighters, so that many may have easy access to their work, without fear that visitors or residents blocking them from an opportunity to live adjacent to their work.
