Wendigo 786 Share Posted August 26, 2016 Well sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but I exhausted my other options. Basic run down, yesterday my computer decided to do a windows update. Great, ok whatever no big deal. WRONG. When I started my pc up again none of my USBs worked...nothing. My mouse nor my external hard drive worked. I tried this entire guide to no avail: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/dead-usb-port-heres-how-to-diagnose-and-fix-it/ . I know it isn't a physical problem because when I keep something plugged in during a restart it'll power up but not install drivers. After I remove say the mouse and try to replug it in no more power is supplied to it. I am running on a laptop so I still have my mousepad but for gaming or even accomplishing tasks with any sort of speed it's no good. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Supremacy 3361 Share Posted August 26, 2016 Also it could be due to a power surge— modern computers turn off the hubs when a surge is detected. "Have you tried turning it on and off again" is good advice here.
Wendigo 786 Author Share Posted August 26, 2016 Did as requested, uninstalled and scanned hardware. Everything installed properly but when I try to plug in my hard drive or mouse, the neither work. I probably should have added in my original post I did a system recovery to before the update and that obviously didn't work. I looked for the power option but it seems I don't have that either. It seems like they are powered though because my external hard drive light does flicker then stay on after I plug it in. My mouse will light up after a restart but after I take it out and put it back in no lights...
Wendigo 786 Author Share Posted August 26, 2016 Just spent 5 hours with the IT at school. Fixed the issue. Drivers probably got corrupt when I dled the new windows update. Had to go online download the correct drivers and force install those ones as my USBs....I appreciate all the help guys. Problem Solved
