Jonificus 2763 Share Posted August 27, 2016 The Johannesburg Taxes, 1574 With the citizens of Johannesburg properly established in the new lands it has been deemed appropriate to commence taxation. To pay the previously mentioned tax, you are to search for your address in the lists posted below. Once your tax rate has been found, you make your way towards the taxman's booth within the Forum by the Dragonsquare. The taxman will supply you with the appropriate receipts which you will place into the slit of your house's tax chest, if you fail to do so the tax collectors will have no proof of your pay and so a warning will be lettered to you. AndrewTech 3334 Share Posted August 30, 2016 Chief Justice of the Crownlands Alastair VonSchlichten writes a letter to the Secretary of the Imperial Treasury: "Mister Secretary, I believe that we had agreed upon a 75 mina tax when I first purchased my dwelling at 12 Alba Street. You were there that day, and we negotiated the price ourselves. However, my dwelling is listed to have a tax rate of 125 minas instead. Is our agreement still valid, or shall I still have to pay the standard 125 mina tax rate for the house? --Alastair VonSchlichten"

A man of your rank should surely be able to afford this small sum with ease. If you believe you for some reason cannot manage to muster fifty more coins then you may come to my office or arrive to the Imperial Court to ask for a lower rate. -His excellency, Harald Bengtfors, Secretary of the Imperial Treasury"

It was alongside another person, a steward of Johannesburg, who was sorting out housing costs at the time. Perhaps you don't remember, or he was your predicessor...? In any case, the settlement was made when I was undergoing financially hard times some years ago, and even the letter I had written about the subject was made before I arose to my current standing in society. I will very gladly pay the extra 50 minas, as I can now easily afford such. Forgive me for any inconvenience that I might have caused you or your office. --Lord Alastair VonSchlichten, Viscount of Chambery"
