Thesis on Clerical Warfare

Since the times of the Exalted Owyn, the Faithful have been called to defend against the forces of evil. There has been much controversy and change regarding the ability for Clergy to bear arms and fight against the forces of evil. Should men who are called to spread God's Divine Will take the life of sentient beings whom seek to do them harm?

Clergy should only go to battle when the High Pontiff has granted his blessing to begin a Holy War. If Humanity is at war with a heretical force, it is the Clergy's duty  to take up arms and defend God's People. However, in times of conflict such as civil wars within Oren, the Clergy should not take a side as it is a grave sin to take the life of a Follower of God. This begs the question of should Clergymen carry weapons in times of peace?

Just because there is peace politically does not mean the war against darkness is halted. The forces of evil care not for ceasefires and will take the lives of innocents in times of peace. Therefore, it is encouraged for the Clergy to be armed so they may be called upon to defend the faithful at a moment's notice. It is our duty to give our lives to God, and it shall be done with constant vigilance.
