Where Loyalties Lie

Lechian Lord

Augustus reads over the edict, his eyes hollow from his long journey.

"A chance to relax... and now this.." He sighs, his mind heavy over the state

of the kingdom. He glances over at the map on his wall, the paper not even aged

from the constant changing of borders.

"For change..." He grabs for his letter, quickly writing down all his worries

to those both close and far to him, his eyes filled with a spark unseen since the times

of youth. "Henry" He calls forth, his servant responding as he grabs the sealed letter

"Take the fastest of our steeds and ride out with haste"

He laughs, watching the man do his bidden. Standing up, he walks over

to his wardrobe, the clothes long not seen by the light of day. Lifting

up a floorboard, he smiles as he takes out a dirty tabbard and a shield, the colors

long faded from his years away.

His hand gently runs over the brittle patch, the purple thread ever so

tantalizing to his eyes. "Ave Orenia.."He whispers quietly, his hands trembling as he

gently places them on his desk, his faulty gait slowly turning steady as he walks out.

Letters go out, the sounds of forges coming from his lands.

"The time has come" Augustus declares in front of his men, his

hand waving at them. His eyes go to his towers, watching

with emotion as the familiar banners of purple and black sweep

over the castle, a sense of stability arisen from the men, long since

used to the rise and fall of kings.

He looks over his men, his body clothed in the torn tabbard of his youth,

purple and black be it. "Now is the time men,"His gaze resting on them all,

his voice filled with a strange pride, his hand resting on the pommel

of his sword "For our true loyalties to be shown. For those around us to know

that even with the fall of the Empire, we are still Orenians!"

"Ave Orenia! Ave Horen!"

Queen Anna of Lotharingia would catch word of this, a bright smile on her face. She'd send word swiftly to the Lord of Chambery.

Oh no, a single man has declared himself loyal to a Queen!" Hughes would laugh. "Everyone thought you were dead for years seeing as you haven't stepped out of your castle filled with maids!"
