Spoiler

i just like this song

Eyes of a deep blue hue haze over, any sign of clear consciousness far from present in them. Thoughts of animals dance across his foggy brain, then thoughts of tribes and loud music, he feels his eyes betray him as colourful wisps flow from around him yet he remains untouched on the forest floor. He begins to hum along to the phantom music and taps his foot against an oak tree like a human metronome. He blinks and the wisps fade away, kind of like his sanity; fleeting. Sobriety was for those who hadn’t yet realized just how bad the world was yet. Who cares if he ate a random mushroom deep in a forgotten forest floor? It’s not like Nora -

Nora.

Guilt pangs in his chest as he thinks of how disapproving she was of his drinking. And how Duncan was his only friend yet he had abandoned him without word. Philip grits his teeth. He can’t bare the thought of his only friends hating him but he couldn’t blame them. Tears begin to form at the corners of his eyes and without warning they fell, one after another until he sat up as to not choke on his own wracking sobs. Much like a switch, or rather a flash fire, even among his hysterical mind he has another thought. What was that saying? If a man sobs but no one is around to hear it, did the tree really fall? It was like he had never heard a joke within his 30 years of living. Sobs of despair suddenly turned into choked laughter. A grin etched its way on to his face and now he was gasping for air from laughing so hard. The depths of the forest around him swallowed up every noise Philip made.

After thirty minutes of on-and-off-again sobbing sobriety hit him like a drunkard against pavement. No new thoughts. Just silence. Without knowing exactly what he was doing or why he was doing it, Philip slowly lifted himself from the ground and began to walk. Carelessly and mindlessly he traversed passed large oak trees without a sound but his light footsteps. Only an hour or two later, he emerged out of the nature-y abyss and collapsed on the side of a pathway.
