A Mother He Needs

It didn’t take long for Karyssmov to arrive after she sent the raven in search of him.

It didn’t take long for her to welcome his wife into her family, much like she did him long ago.

It didn’t take long for her to see the pain in his eyes as he looked up to her and said “I need hugs.”

Nynaeve’s small, gentle form had moved over to him. Her arms embraced him tightly as if he was a small child in her arms. She took a deep breath as waves of sadness would fall onto her being. Her son, someone who was always cheerful and full of life, was now sitting here at her table...crying.

“Please, whatever you do, don’t leave me.”

The woman would blink back tears as memories would flood her mind to her own mother as she disowned her back in Vailor. The woman took a deep breath, pulling the man in her arms tighter and closer to her.

“I will never leave you, I am not that kind of mother.”

After everyone had gone to bed, Nyn slowly emerged from her room in the house and out the door. Gentle footsteps, crunching of rocks, and shuffling of grass filled her ears as she walked up the paths and to the Aspect Statues. From there, she sat in front to Cerridwen, looking up at her with ther emerald and foggy green eyes.

She was the Mother of the Harvest. The Aspect of life, nurturement, fertility, and growth. Cerridwen was the mother of all things in nature, and Nyn was always told she guided her through life. The pinkette woman would stare up at the statue, at her face.

For Nyn, the topic of mothers and how to be one properly was strained. Her own mother disowned her at the age of twenty, a time where she needed her mother most. Of course, she had been ignoring Nynaeve for years before that...it was just twenty was the age the child could be kicked out. At least by Sagehand tradition it is.

After that, Nyn’s life had become void from ever wanting children. She was scared to end up like her mother. It wasn’t until many years later when she had found Linandria, her former home, and had Virinya that she even realized just how much children would actually mean to her.

She watched many of the children she took in grow into beautiful young women and handsome young men, following their own paths in life and yet always coming back to their mother for hugs and cuddles when they needed it.

She understood how being a mother was suppose to be. It was suppose to be loving them unconditionally and supporting them in their choices as long as its for the good in their life. However, after the events of that morning continued to play through her head, Nyn questioned even if this Lilyana knew what being a mother really was.

Meeting Kary was a small chance, him being drunk in the tavern and being jealous over the fact that she was giving Ivlisar gentle embraces and a heartfelt talk. It caused Nyn to chuckle and pull him into her arms, making sure he was comfortable until he fell asleep from the intoxication. He showed up later, asking if she remembered, which she did, and letting him know it was all right.

When she took him in, she noticed how much of an impacted he had become in her life. There were times when she felt herself become lost in her own darkness and she had no clue how to escape and there was Karyssmov to lead her out of it. It was nice, but after a while she felt as if she had been using his Clerical gifts like some sort of addict and began to hate asking him for help. She was the one who was suppose to help him, not the other way around.

Her eyes stayed on the statue, her thoughts on Karyssmov. He needed her to be stronger than she had ever been now. He need a mother to comfort him in this time. From the back of her head, she heard a voice. Perhaps it was her own thoughts speaking through...or maybe Cerridwen giving her motherly advice:

“You are strong, there is nothing that would tell you otherwise. You have been through so much, but you always somehow pull through it all. Now is the time to show him your light and be his rock, like he has done for you. Be the best you can be for him, he has been left. You are his mother now, protect him and love him as such. The two of you are so much alike, it’s no wonder you two were guided to one another.

You show him how a mother is suppose to be, just as you have done for the other children in your care. He needs you.

Be the mother he needs. Be the mother they need.”

Nyn would smile softly, moving to stand. Her hands would move to her satchel to pull out a few beautiful gems she had collected recently. “Thank you, gracious Mother...for always guiding me in times I need you most. I may not have had a mother growing up, but I have had you…and now I have Renn too..”

With that, Nyn would head home as the sun peeked over the horizon.

She had a job to do and that was be the mother her children needed to be.

The mother Kary needed.
