The Flame does not die

Baldin repeats his oath as a member of the Watch of the Flame as he investigates a secret layer of worshipers of Khorvad in the frozen tundra.

 

“A servant of the flame of Yemmekar is sworn to valour,

His heart knows only virtue,

His blade defends the Clergy,

His might upholds the faith,

His word speaks only truth,

His wrath undoes the evils of Khorvad."

 

Every step he took was made harder by the piercing cold and by the smell of decaying flesh. For more than 8 years he has been working away from his homeland, hunting down the spawns of Khorvad wherever they could hide. When he remembers who he was; The steward of Kal’Omith and Jornheim, High prophet of Wyrvun, Leader of the Bear Guard, he cannot avoid regretting his actions, wishing he had not betrayed his friend Kerwyr, but those are selfish thoughts, every time those come over him he stops. He reflects on what would've happened if he hadn't changed sides; multiple deaths of honorable dwed, a weakened Urguan, and a divided nation. When he remembers this he is able to continue his duty as a Flame Brother without regret or guilt. He might no longer be able to be Clan Father or high king things that he dreamed to become ever since he was a beardling, but in his heart he knows the Brathmordakin have placed a crown over his head.

When he has slain the last of the heretics the Flame Brother leaves the dungeon. Looking at the star in the night sky he says.

 

“I need to go home.”
