MISSIVE TO RENATIAN LOYALISTS

Issued and confirmed by His Royal Majesty, the King of Renatus-Marna, Aurelius of the House of Horen, 4th of the Amber Cold, 1660.

TO OUR BELOVED SUBJECTS,

The great conflict in which we have found ourselves engaged in has tested the loyalties within our fair nation.  The grand majority of the crown’s beloved vassals, bar a single thorn, have overcome the test of time and showcased a great amount of zeal, drive and love for humanity, and, of course, the fatherland of Renatus-Marna.

This previously mentioned thorn, however, has sought to opt for rebellion in refusal to adhere to the Crown’s demands which sought to increase the efficiency of the realm and strengthen our borders in the midst of this disastrous conflict. This thorn is none other than the dishonorable House of Brandt and the former Duchy of Blackmarsh.

It is thusly right that, in order to remain transparent with our fair vassals due to their appreciated service to the Realm, to disclose the reasonings behind the Crown’s decision to revoke the former Duchy of Blackmarsh’s status and evict them from the territory of Belvitz, which may ultimately result in the quelling of a rebellion. Likewise, our explanations hope to provide an ease of mind to all landed nobility to showcase what is expected and why we are, in fact, not corrupt nor oppressive to those within the Realm.

THE REASONINGS ARE AS FOLLOWED:

  • The Dishonorable House of Brandt has been found to having been plotting against the honorable Crown of Renatus-Marna from the day land was provided unto them: The 17th of Snow’s Maiden, 1656.

  • The Dishonorable House of Brandt has failed, and refused, to meet the base requirement of rallying its levy for combat against the Crown’s abhorrent enemies, that of the United Southern Alliance, despite the summoning of banners issued by his Majesty, Aurelius I Horen.

  • The Dishonorable House of Brandt has failed to meet the required base number of enlisted soldiers as issued by his Majesty, Aurelius I Horen.

  • The Dishonorable House of Brandt has failed, and refused, to attend courtly summons upon the request of his Majesty, Aurelius I Horen.

  • The Dishonorable House of Brandt has failed, and refused, to pay the royal tax when requested by the Crown.

  • The Dishonorable House of Brandt has failed, and refused, to adhere to the Crown’s numerous requests, such as the request to vacate the territory of Belvitz.

As such, the Crown of Renatus-Marna believes it is both just and imperative to take quick action against this rebellious entity and re-establish order within the realm.

As we seek secular guidance in this moment of crisis, we also turn to prophets for sacred wisdom. In this search, we too stumble upon the works of the Third Exalted, Godfrey I Horen. It was he, humanity’s first and most true of all Emperors, to establish the system which humanity has been governed by for millennia. This system is, of course, the relationship between Lord and Vassal. In Godfrey’s life, there were many aspiring vassals with men but no land, and many lords with land and no men. Thus, the system Godfrey established, the holy relationship as some would call it, is that Lords provide land unto aspiring vassals in exchange for men to fill the lord’s levy. As such, due to the fact that the Brandts have failed to provide men unto their lord’s greater levy, the holy relationship has been defiled, and thus, the lord owes no land to the aspiring vassal.

IN NOMINE DEI,

HIS ROYAL MAJESTYAurelius I of the House of Horen, King of Renatus, Marna, Mardon, Salvus, Seventis, and Savoy, Duke of the Crownlands, Cascadia, Avar, and Frederica, Count of Sennisten, Alamar, Frederica, Thesmer, Thelen, Lorath, and Cantal, Baron of Darkwood, Gravelhold, Fidei Defensor, Protector of the Heartlanders, etcetera.
