Nothing. Neutron’s don’t give the atom it’s identity, they just identify that it is now an Ion.

It’s impossible to know. Light travels fast, but it’s to slow for us to see when stars die and are born. A star could look alive and bright from Earth, due to light speed, but it’s actually dead and dim.
