The Valkyrim

 

 

Long have the Valkyrim served to protect Wyrvun’s chosen leader. These select few are considered the elite of the Ivae’fenn, chosen by the Grand Prince himself. Those worthy enough of the position swear an oath before every Wayshrine. All who prepare for entry into the Valkyrim recite the words.

 

“I will not bring dishonour on my sacred arms, nor will I abandon my comrades on the field of battle. I will defend the rights of Wyvurn and his domain, Hesin’fin. I will not leave my Princedom smaller when I die, but greater and better, so far as I am able by myself and with the help of all. I will respect and protect the Grand Prince and his heir duly until my last breath. If anyone seeks to destroy the Princedom, I will oppose them so far as I am able by myself and with the help of all. I will honor the religion of my fathers. I swear before this Wayshrine, I will defend the Princedom until there is no blood in my veins.”

 

 

Once the oath has been spoken at all shrines to Wyrvun, the newly emerged Valkyr is handed his purple cloth. This generally is done by the Grand Prince, however the Sentinel of the Valkyrim may also perform this ceremonious event.

 

History

The history of the Valkyrim guard dates back to the first Snow Elves. Aelthos II, the son of the first Snow Elf, chose three Valkyrim during his reign - the first of which being Tenvar Atmorice the “Silver Serpent”. His prowess in combat was unmatched by his peers, and as such Aelthos II named him Sentinel of the Valkyrim.

 

He, along with his companions, served solely as sworn shields to the Grand Prince. The Valkyrim were created as a means to retain the authority of Wyrvun’s chosen leader. As such, they are considered an off branch of the Ivae’fenn. Taking commands from no one other than the Grand Prince, they are loyal beyond measure.

 

During the many genocides of Snow Elves in the Fringe, the five standing Valkyrim engaged into a battle. All five were slain without mercy, thus ending the Valkyrim.

 

Recently, Grand Prince Aelthir Tundrak II reinstated the Valkyrim in Atlas. Two Valkyrim currently serve under the reign of Aelthir Tundrak II, they are as follows: Sentinel of the Valkyrim Aesilnoth Annungilben, and the second in command Varan Atmorice.

 

            

 

Duties

 

The duties of the Valkyrim, while few, are some of the most important. They are tasked with the defense of not only Wyrvun’s chosen ruler, but of all the Hesin’fin. They are considered a separate branch of the Ivae’fenn and thus do not take commands from anyone besides the Grand Prince and the Crown Prince. Along with this, they may not issue commands to Ivae’fenn unless appointed to do so. The only exception to this rule is during times of conflict, with outside forces. In this instance they will follow the orders of Wardens and above. If no ranking officer is present, they will take precedence in the chain of command.

 

The Valkyrim provide a personal escort force to the Grand Prince of the Mali’fenn, first and foremost. Secondary to this, they may provide similar actions for high ranking governmental and military figures. The Valkyrim are also tasked with the protection of the Citadel of Acael, guarding its halls from any unauthorized visitation. To maintain a watchful eye, the Valkyrim barracks are located within the grounds of the Citadel. This is useful in maintaining security during off duty times.
