Shrogo Hierarchy

The Shrogo Clan hierarchy is not clearly divided between its religious and militaristic aspects, with the religious aspects of the clan taking precedence over the others. While there is a vague militaristic aspect of the clan, most of the clan's power is vested in those who are devoted to the Bad Moon and either an indoctrinated member of the Cult of Luara or the regular religion that praises Betheruz and Luara and venerates Schnub'Nub, their isle's conqueror. However, as a goblin clan in a nation of orcs, might does hold some sway over clan affairs as they still respect the tradition of the klomp, which is known to them as the 'skrap', and it still has some sway over their ranks. Additionally, there are actions that allow progression through the clan's castes, mainly centered on the aforementioned religious fervor.

Ranks and Castes

The Gobbgoth

The Gobbgoth is the leader of the Shrogo Clan, a title that, from the distant isle of Shroglund, was divided between a Greater Gobbgoth, who ruled over all of the isle, and a collection of lesser God Goths that ruled over various regional bodies. As the Shrogo are but a clan and not a nation off of Shroglund, there is only one Gobbgoth, doubling as the Warlord or Wargoth of Shrogo. The Gobbgoth is chosen by skrap, with the challengers requiring the approval of the Grand Mushob and half of the Mushobs in order to klomp the Gobbgoth, to ensure that they will steer Luara's people according to her will.

The Grand Mushob

The Grand Mushob is the second most important figure of authority and, while their choosing is vague, the office is typically held by the oldest or most important Mushob. The position of the Grand Mushob can be challenged, at which point all of the Mushobs decide upon a date and time to decide upon a new one under the moon. Standard operating procedure for the selection of a Grand Mushob is to gather, consume the Mad Cap individually, and then, after going through their vision, pick the Mushob most deserving based upon the vision. As the vision will usually reflect the individual's personal sentiments, they will almost always vote for whoever they would've voted for without the Shrooms. If the election comes to a tie, the old Grand Mushob is simply kept and the challenger loses his claim. A challenger that is voted down can challenge again, however, there is an interval of 1 Schnub Journey (4 Krug's months) between challenges. However, the same is true of a deposed Gobbgoth. The  Grand Mushob is also, as mentioned before, the individual who partly vets the challengers to the position of Gobbgoth, who also must be approved by half of the Mushobs. The Grand Mushob cannot be removed or replaced by the Gobbgoth, though the Gobbgoth can challenge to become the Grand Mushob.

The Herdgobba

The Herdgobba serves two roles; He is the chief military operator of the Shrogos and typically the best or 2nd best fighter, and is also the individual tasked with managing the clan's animals. As animals are a rarity to the Shrogos, this duty is deemed highly important and is thus left to the Herd Gobba to breed, feed, and care for any animals the Shrogo might acquire. As Shrogos are naturally cowardly during the day, unless they are engaging in a conflict during the night, the Herdgobba is typically required to herd the goblins towards their intended military goal. If fighting at night, however, the Herd Gobba is typically the one who is in control of making sure the Loons don't run off and get killed. The Herd Gobba is also able to challenge the Gobbgoth without the approval of half of the Mushobs, rather simply needing to gain only the Grand Mushob's approval. The Herd Gobba is a position that is scrapped for, requiring no approval, however, Snotlings cannot skrap for the position of Herd Gobba. Additionally, there is a waiting period of 1 Schnub Journey if the challenger loses the klomp. However, if the Herd Gobba falls out of favor with the Gobbgoth, the Herd Gobba can be replaced at will.

Hobgobbas

Hobgobbas are typically seen as the equivalent to elders of other clans, however, it is a position that is not attained and permanently held. Hobgobbas are the individuals who actively contribute and aid the clan in succeeding, whether that be steering clanless goblins towards the Gobbgoth, attaining sacrifices, capturing slaves, or any other productive and required thing. When a goblin is noticed to fall out of productivity, they lose this elite status and are relegated to being a normal Gobba. Herd Gobbos are also able to challenge the Gobbgoth without the approval of half of the Mushobs, relying only upon the approval of the Grand Mushob. Additionally, they hold enough authority to command Gobbas and Snotlings to help them in their productivity. In Shroglund, usually they were just the Gobbgoth's friends, and formed a form of upper class.

Gobbas

Gobbas are the rank-and-file of the Shrogo. They are the standard caste, and formed a respected middle class in Shroglund.

Snotlings

Snotlings are the lowest class of the Shrogo, and are usually only either new members of the clan or individuals who have fallen out of favor of either the Grand Mushob or Gobbgoth. Snotlings are unable to challenge the Gobbgoth at all, and are able to be ordered around by anyone above them.

Misc.

Loons

Loons are individuals who have won past Crescent Moon Scraps, and are given the dubious honor of being allowed to use the MadCaps' potential to send an individual into a frenzied state before battle to form a terrifying shock troops in battle. The Herd Gobba cannot be a Loon as he is meant to control the Loons on the field of battle.

Moonshunned

Moonshunned individuals are members of the clan who have fallen out of favour and who have been stripped of the Shrogo name. They typically have done something to anger Luara, the Grand Mushob, or the Gobbgoth, and as such are given a task fitting of their crime in order to rejoin the Shrogo clan and prove their loyalty to the Clan. Additionally, any Moonshunned are branded with the icon of the Bad Moon upon their heads, and if they pass their trial, they are given a yellow tattoo over their brand, signifying their having made amends.

Tasks and Trials

Recruitment

The recruitment process is simply an indoctrination into the following of the Bad Moon of either denominations. Typically, they are given a Mad Cap trip and, after their trip, given a sermon on the glories of Luara before having any questions they need answered. They are also given the traditional Shrogo Robe, spun from a black silk only the Mushobs know how to create and embroidered with yellow threaded borders. While the robe is never mandatory, the Shrogo that does not wear the robe will typically not only be faced by the rigors of the Sun but also have little hope of advancement, considering many of the trials

are subjective. Mushobs, the Grand Mushob, and the Gobbgoth can recruit new members of the clan.

Snotling to Gobba

The process of becoming a Gobba is relatively empirical, requiring that the Snotling

    - Have attended at least 1 sermon of any Mushob apart from the one given at their recruitment

    - Have had at least 1 Mad Cap vision apart from the one given at their recruitment

    - Have supplied at least 3 sacrifices to the Mushobs to give to Luara

    - Have 'made themselves useful' in some way, whether it be by helping the construction of a clan hall, joined the Gobbgoth, Herd Gobba, or Grand Mushob on a raid, erected a statue of Luara somewhere, supplied iron to the clan, etc.

    - Worship Luara devoutly.

If all of these are met, a Snotling can be made into a Gobba, whether spontaneously or by requesting it of the Gobbgoth, Grand Mushob, or Herd Gobba when they feel they are ready. Mushobs cannot elevate Snotlings to Gobbas.

Additionally, the Gobbgoth, Grand Mushob or Herdgobba can demote a Gobba to Snotling whenever they feel it is apt.

Gobba to Hobgobba

The process of becoming a Hobgobba is more complex and requires more to be done. To become a Hobgobba, a goblin must demonstrate their devoutness to Luara actively and consistently 'make themselves useful' by all of the previously mentioned things but in great abundance. A Shrogo that consistently accompanies Mushobs on sacrifice hunts, consistently helps construct shrines and dig caverns, consistently provide slaves and help out on raids, consistently provide weapons and armor, consistently earn prestige and honor for their clan, is able to become a Hobgobba. This is also done by application or spontaneously, however, to become a Hobgobba there must be an interview during which the Gobba's faith and usefulness will be tested by the Gobbgoth. The Gobbgoth is the only one that can make Gobbos into Herdgobbas. Additionally, he can demote Hobgobbas to Gobbas whenever he feels it is apt.

The Skrap

The Skrap is a specific kind of klomp that has been mentioned a few times, however, when it is in reference to a klomp for leadership, after consuming the Mad Cap and entering a frenzy, there are 3 bouts of fighting before a winner is decided. The person who wins the most amount of klomps in a skrap wins.

Becoming a Mushob

To become a mushob, a prospective Mushob must find an already-appointed Mushob to act as a mentor of sorts. This mentor Mushob will instruct the prospective Mushob on how to sacrifice, how to interpret Mad Cap visions, and how to give sermons by the mentor Mushob. When the mentor Mushob believes his prospective Mushob ready, the prospective Mushob will be brought before the Grand Mushob who then is given a sermon by the prospective mushob as well as a Mad Cap vision interpretation. If everything checks out, the Grand Mushob will then anoint the prospective Mushob a full Mushob and give them sacred Sacrificial Dagger, a silver dagger possessed by all Mushobs and used in sacrifices.

Falling out of Favor & Moonshunning

There are many ways a Shrogo can fall out of favor with the clan, whether by disgracing or disrespecting Luara or the Bad Moon in some way, angering the Gobbgoth or Grand Mushob, or performing some action deemed whitewash. If any of these are the case, the Gobbgoth or Grand Mushob can lower the troublemaking Shrogo's social status or make the Shrogo a 'Moonshunned' individual, stripping the goblin of the Shrogo name and causing him to be set on a quest to redeem himself by the Grand Mushob or Gobbgoth. Sometimes, this quest is purposefully made so outlandish that it is fully intended to block the individual from ever returning to the clan. A list of moonshunned individuals is kept by the Mushob Scribes. Additionally if the action against the clan is reprehensible enough, the Moonshunned individual will be sacrificed to Luara as atonement for his actions.
