Concerning a Rose

Issued Winter 1745

Spoiler

The Rosen Queen of Curon was recently felled by my warriors in the depths of the Montburgh. She died without compromise, without grovelling, without thought of betrayal. She died standing. For that she will have my everlasting respect. Hence the return of her body, that the Curi could lay her to rest in the manner of their culture and faith.

Of her death I will say little more. She was an enemy at war, she was killed. Rather I will address two crucial topics that seem to have gone largely unnoticed by those mourning her death. Firstly, and perhaps most admirably. Her thoughts of her children. Secondly, the tyrannical attempted theft by the petty Helenan snake.

On the Children of Queen Ester Rose

Her final request of me was to protect her children in her stead. To this end I have given my word that, to the best of my ability I will prevent them from coming to any harm. Thus, Marius, Kazimar and Aleksandra are afforded the fullness of my protection until their eighteenth winter. They shall come to no harm by the hands of the Alliance of Independent States nor by the men of the Highland Realm.

On the Theft of Curonian Title

To this day the Helenans persist with their thieving ways. Having recently attempted to steal the titles of Curon. Specifically claiming to be the ‘King of Curon’. This theft is par for the course in regards to the conduct of the King of Helena. The lineage of Peter has no claim to the Monarchy of Curon, regardless of their legal trickery. The Curonic crown rests rightfully with the Devereux. To that end Ester Rose died as the Queen of Curon. She is followed by Wilhelm Edward II Devereux. How the supposedly divine crowns of the Canonist kings can be passed with so little legality nor assent or coronation from the Pontificate is further evidence of not only the weakness of the Church. But also of the secular spirit of the southern crowns.

To us of the Highlands who do not spend our time breaking our oaths to our wives, nor worshipping laws devoid of the Divine. It is only logical to hold that the noble is the physical incarnation of his people and his land. A servant appointed by divine providence to rule his people and steward his lands for the prolonged health and wellbeing of the people. How can a man who spends his time hiding in a southern palace, abandoning his oath to wife and faith claim to be the incarnate representative of Curon. Having no knowledge or tie to those lands. This foul repugnant internationalism should stand repugnant to all folk. Certainly to the dwindling number of Helenan slaves that fail to see the theft occurring before their very nose. In that sense the following cannot be denied.

Wilhelm Edward II of Devereux is the King of Curon

To Wilhelm Edward II Devereux

In recognition of the severe loss you have recently endured the AIS forces shall leave your lands to the west of the Ayr river for three elven days. That you may appropriately mourn and go about your holy rituals. Once this period has finished, I would like to meet with you. As to discuss the future of your people and your realm.

Regards and Prayers

“The Pontificate has done no such coronation as of currently.” said Boniface.

“Hence my confusion as to why the King of Helena claims to be the King of Curon” Godric would respond, “Amongst the Nordish we are not Kings until crowned by our priests, even I a Duke was so elevated. I had thought the same stood for the southern realms”

Klaudia reads over the missive in her office in Avalain and while happy to hear the AIS will them alone for a grace period, she fears about the safety of Wilhelm Edward and the prospects of this meeting

”. . . We must convene the council . . . words proclaiming the recognition of Wilhelm Edward mean little in comparison to the aggressive land grabbing actions the AIS have taken against our nation. With Stauntons, Suffolks, Merentels, and likely the leadership of Morsgrad as well looking to steal our titles, subjugate us to their rules, place imposters on our throne, or entirely annihilate us all together off the face of Arcas . . . . we would do best to stay away from such people. I will give my life if needed to protect our sovereignty and keep the RIGHTFUL rulers of House Devereux on the throne. We shall not be some prized pig for slaughter by the AIS and their affiliates. Our land, people and titles do not belong to them and they shall NEVER belong to them. In the words of the first King I served so many many years ago “ Curonia and its citizens do not BEND nor BOW to any force that dares oppose us”.
