Ikur Sullas, Maheral, makes a great show of slapping a notice up. He flashes a winning smile at the citizenry with a double-thumbs-up to match. The notice is as follows:

To Find an Okarir’maehr

Knowledge (and Progress!): the lifeblood of the Republic and the uniting bond between all Mali’thill.

Children of the Silver State,

It is on this day I regrettably inform you that our former Okarir'maehr, the very ancient and fairly venerable Silvos Sythaerin, has decided to resign. As a consequence we as Mali’thill must choose his successor by the most ancient rite of voting.

Thus, an election will be held. Nominations are to be executed in the traditional fashion – by shouting them at the Maheral and Maelunir right here.

A speech is required for a nomination to be valid.

((A 3D portrait – either from novaskin or somewhere else – is required for your speech to be cool. Ask in discord if you’re confused.))

Silvyr Uradir

nJMfCCL.png

Silvyr Uradir did his very best to fix his appearance after the brutal beating he had received only days before. Bandages wrapped his arms and his legs, but were mostly hidden under the very fancy attire he wore. Reading the recent announcement, Silvyr immediately started writing out a speech in the comfort of his room at the Uradir Manor. When finished, he stood up in front of the large mirror and started practicing his lines, to ensure he did not miss anything when he finally did it publicly. The next morning, the Uradir walked out of the large bulding, leaving the notes behind, feeling confident in his memory. When he got back into the city, he made his way to the front gate, moving  up the stairs and standing before the people of Haelun’or.

“Dear Mali’thill, decedents of the followers of Larihei. It is with great pleasure, that I stand before you today to formally announce my campaign to you in person. In the event you did not get the opportunity to read my written announcement, I am happy to reiterate some of the things I said here in this public forum. Now, without further delay, we will get right to the issues at hand, and my reasons for running for the position of Okarir’maehr. Silvos Sythaerin was a fantastic example for what an Okarir’maehr ought to be. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with him in person, and have formulated some different ideas from the ones I mentioned in my written announcement. Of course, the most important part of being an Okarir’maehr is the dedication to the Eternal College. In my opinion, a resource that is not used in the way I feel it should be. And I assure you all, I have great plans to alter the direction of the college on the path it is best suited to be on. Starting with the curriculum, we will be moving the focus to Larihei, Purity, History, and Medicine. To me, these are the four pillars of wisdom and progress, and ought to be the focus for each and every Mali’thill that lives among us in the city. Of course, no force will be applied to ‘thill not interested in participation. My first act as Okarir’maehr will be to remove the enrollment process completely. Instead, the classes will be public and completely free. This includes any books that go along with the lessons. Formal announcements will be made issuing the date and time for lectures hosted by various professors who teach at the Eternal College. However, lessons will be regulated so they are not overbearing or intrusive to our every day lives. Meaning at most, there will be two lessons each common year. Once again, there will be no sign-ups required. Just show up if you are interested in that specific lesson.”

The Uradir spoke with an air of calmness, and confidence. He waved his hands around in a way that emphasized certain words and sentences. The golden haired Uradir took a moment to appreciate the attendance of the present ‘thill, knowing this was his chance to prove to them his commitment to the duty he was running for.

“Now, I realize many of you who are newer to the city have not had a chance to enroll in any classes under the previous Okarir’maehr. But I’d like to ensure you all, that my driving focus will be those who wish to learn. Meaning the ‘thill who have just recently returned or have finally come to stay with their own race. I will be available throughout each and every day to attend to your questions, and I implore you all to find me if you wish for a impromptu lesson, which I am happy to give on any subject you might be curious about. I have one-hundred and fifty years of constant study under my belt. And my true passion is with education and Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya. I have studied my entire life, and have accomplished many things. In my early life, I was a doctor who sold my medicine across the world, amassing a fortune for myself and my Talonnii. I studied medicine for about forty years, then moved on to become a history scholar. I’ve spent time in countless private libraries, different nations and cultures, and even overseas. The last hundred years of my life were spent studying, so I can stand here before you to lead the education effort forward. Once again, nothing that I do will impede on your daily lives, as education should be something that every ‘thill seeks out for themselves. My goal by becoming Okarir’maehr is to ensure that knowledge is within arms reach, and in a position that is always clear to everyone. The college will become a resource that I hope everyone will feel welcomed to use whenever they want. And will also be a place for scholars to hone their teaching skills, to pass on everything they have learned to the next generation, our future. I will conclude this speech by saying I have every ounce of  confidence in my people, and know you will all make the educated decision when voting this election. Win or lose, I intend to continue on this path of education until my very last day in this realm. Ahern ito nae’leh.”

Silvyr made a grand bow to those watching, and stepped down from the stairs. Awaiting any challengers to arise.

Andria decided against putting on fancy clothing choosing to show the dress she has always worn in the past hundred years or so. The attire she was most known for being seen in. Her face a nervous wreck just as she went to the people of haelnour. Upon overhearing the words of Uradir her feet held still, though she rouses oneself to speak up within the throes of people. The face moments before blending into a calmer expression with a  dip of her head she begins to speak.

“Hiylu'evar,You may call my Andria From this point on and forward, even if you yourself do not know me I am more then happy to talk to you about anything you may wish to know. When I was younger, I took my time to study mathematics and the way other cultures built. I spent a hundred years doing that and exploring each culture I could get my hands on. Finally, after some time, I was brought back home where I was met with welcoming arms. But the place I most wanted to visit was always barred off from me. Something I wish for no mortal, elf, Kha, halfing or orc. Knowledge should always be free no matter whom it comes from. I have decided to run for Okarir’maehr for the very reason of helping you. The public ,understanding  yourselves and the history behind you. Each family has its own bloodline and stories, each structure within its city has been rebuilt more than once. How do I know this because they have something in common. The foundation. The foundation of information and stories about what once was. Everythign we know is built on foundations that we draw back on.  History will always be important in Haelunor, and I wish to teach more about it. Not even that, I wish to teach the elvish language more extensively. Too few of us know truly how to speak it, we rather spit out phrases and sayings then truly knows what it means. “

Moving to change subjects as she took out a leather-bound book. Looking over her writing. For a few seconds a nervous flick as she looked back up to the people with a smile continuing her words. Her face a gentle smile as she discussed all the sparse details about professions and learning. Her fingers fiddling together. As a beaming smile only recalled to a few would come on her face.

“Lessons should be taught easily so we can all learn, through writing listening and doing. Myself? If I haven’t done it, I certainly can't do it by just listening.  There are many types of learning and many topics to learn. Things such as Religion, Elvish, Medicine and Purity need to be taught. Alongside Basics and extra classes. All of us can read Ti? How much of us can cook? Can carefully sew? How much of us can fight gallantly other than the silumir? These little things are minuscule in our active lifestyle but when they are needed most a small per cent of us can actually do so. Not only is it helpful, Thill, but you may also even find a lifestyle in doing so. A lifelong passion to support our city growth and all because you were properly taught it! It's a magnificent idea, at least I think so. I know I am not the most qualified, thill here. Most of you might recognize me as the Aldin that has said nothing. But I do know I am at least qualified to approach the city, our teachings and our library back up in running in a polished manner. I am no Sythaerin or Uradir. I am an Aldin and Aldin's follow-through. I will follow through until my death. All you have to do is accept my glowing promise.Aheran.”

A small curtsy before the crowd, Not really sure what to do next now that she was here. Stepping to the side..

Silvyr Uradir

nJMfCCL.png

The Uradir listens closely to the entirety of his opponent’s speech, taking in every word and formulating a response as she continued. Though, he was clearly humbled by some of her remarks. With a short look of acknowledgement and admiration, Silvyr stepped into her place after she walked down. He prepared himself mentally to speak publicly again, taking a half second to calm himself with a deep breath before starting.

“I must admit, I see great potential in you Andria of the Aldin Talonnii, so I would like to start my reply off by saying, with the passions you have for education, you would make a great professor. And if I get elected, you can feel certain there will be a place for you in a teaching position. Now, I’d like to briefly mention that, according to my new curriculum and structure for lessons, you will have as much time as you need to formulate lectures, thus giving you ample time to study and make books for whatever subjects you are interested in teaching. This would take the weight of blame off of your shoulders should anything go wrong, and I would happily speak on your behalf should issues arise with your lectures. The administrative work required for this position is something I am admittedly very good at, and understand very well. And with all due respect, I think it would be the wisest choice to work with me, rather than against me as a political opponent. I have no doubts that you are somewhat qualified for this job, but I have the history, and the reputation to support my claim to this position on the council. It is what I was destined to do, and I know I will excel with the power bestowed upon me over the Eternal College, the Laboratories and partial responsibility over the Eternal Library, with the assistance of the Tilruir’indor.”

Silvyr took a breath, uncertain about the emotions that may resonate with the crowed with his response. However, knowing this was a political environment, he continued onto his next point, knowing it was already said and done with.

“Something I have yet to mention is the dominion over the laboratories and the coordination with the Tilruir’indor on the Eternal Library. Now my plans for this are admittedly not as grand as my plans for my main focus, the college. But I would like to mention the subject due to the fact that this does have to do with the Okarir’maehr in a big way. On this topic, I will not be making any great or lasting changes for a short time. I will have to speak with those who have been responsible for the last couple of years, and get a feel for the environment and their responsibilities. To ensure I don’t upset anyone who may help me in that regard, all I can say is the library and the laboratories will be handled the same way for a year or two, or perhaps longer assuming the advisory roles of those who work on them deem it necessary. When we come up with a plan, if any, then changes will be made accordingly. And we will all see progress in that regard as well, that much I can assure you all. With that said, my ideas now for the laboratories are similar to that of Silvos Sythaerin, the late Okarir’maehr. They should be used for various tasks, such as magic practice, alchemical studies, or even experimental smithing. But something I can promise is that these labs will be maintained more regularly, and checked often for activity.”

Silvyr stepped down once again, awaiting any response from Andria or any other opponents who may take the ‘stage’.

Andria Aldin

Andria stood there listening to the remarks and words of her opponent, though she may have shown fear for the crowd in public speaking on no way was she scared of her rival. If anything her mind blossoms with thoughts and new remarks as he spoke.

"Though I feel humble to think you would gratefully accept me onto your staff if you were democratically elected. But in no way do I see you as an enemy or an opponent to beat. I merely wish for the environment of our learning as a whole to be better. It goes without saying that we are both fit to help out in any case. Whether we win or lose, its not a competition but the familiar words of our intellectual life being carefully handed to the public. Thill support each other there should be no whim or 'i shall do so', it's the job of the okarir' maehr to prepare his students whether its to support their own teachers and sciences or impart a lesson on manners to another. It's a given, not a gift. However, I do not doubt your reasoning or credibility. If anything I appreciate you for all your work and everything you have done such forth."

She gives him a small clap, for his effort and a smile continuing to speak.

"I will admit your plans sound smooth at first, though changing nothing at least at first? Do you not fear that your fate may end up the same? Burnt out and tired of all that may come. I plan at first should be controlled, figure out what's wrong, and have it changed. Not just accordingly. If what you do is for the best you shouldn't have to make enemies and carefully tread on toes not to anger anyone. You should be able to do so with a clear path, if anything enacts internship within our lovely community and the world. Where Labourites don't always have to hide but can explore their interest with a clear set in mind and a safe instructor to watch them.

Along with that the interest of the library, I want to enact that the teachers or students if they so wish. Should start a book club within the eternal library as we settle. They can still come in and enjoy their books with others while the staff can properly work. That way, the public." Andria's hands moved to the crowd and Silvyr himself. "May also enjoy, be able to ask and learn. Nothing should ever be in a stalemate within a city as bustling as ours.”

Silvyr Uradir

nJMfCCL.png

Silvyr Uradir made his way up the steps once again, having formulated a response to his political opponent, Andria Aldin. He inhales sharply through his nostrils, and spoke with confidence and calmness, to prove he felt no pressure from her.

“I without a doubt do not wish for stagnation when it comes to the library, and the laboratories. However, there are those who have been working closely on these subjects for quite some time. And the last thing I want to do is announce changes that may or may not drive them off. It is in my best interest and the city’s that there is cooperation among us. One of these figures include Silvos Sythaerin, the previous Okarir’maehr. As I understand it, he has a vested interest in the laboratories. And before making any changes I want to ensure we are on the same page. I am not saying I will grow lazy or complacent. But I feel the people will understand that, and know I should not be on the defense here. I have proven to many if not the entire city that I am capable, dedicated, and have a strong passion for knowledge, and the pursuit of progress. Whether it be with my documentation of recent events, or the studies on the mysterious orb, or my constant struggle to help the people understand who I truly am, and what  I  represent. They know my true motives, because I have revealed them my entire life. I am an open book, and I am nothing if not totally honest. Especially when speaking in a public format such as this.”

Silvyr looked disgruntled, based on the accusations Andria threw at him, but he regained his composure shortly thereafter, deciding it was time to fight back in his own way.

“The question should truly be directed at you, Andria. You have not announced any unique changes since you have taken the stage. I have introduced the idea of public classes, free and open to everyone. I have proposed a removal of formal enrollment, promising to allow everyone to feel included in my and other’s lectures. I have proposed a different curriculum, focusing on the pillars of Mali’thill society. I feel strongly that all of these changes will be welcomed ones, and noticed ones. I cant help but feel the only relevant thing you have brought to the table is a ‘book club’ which I would be happy to participate in, I might add. But you must see the differences here, I have a thought out plan, I have the will for the position. I know what I’m going to do before I get there, and I have been totally transparent with the public about everything thus far. You have only said that if you gain the office, you will ‘figure out what’s wrong, and have it changed.’ I am not saying these things with ill will towards you, but I know for a fact the education system will prosper under my protection, and based on your speeches I can’t have that same faith in you that I have in myself. I don’t wish for you to feel attacked, because I truly wish to work together in the future, regardless of the outcome of the election. You have a strong spirit, and are clearly passionate about being an educator. And that is something I respect greatly in you.”

The Uradir took a deep breath, bowing to the crowd before stepping down. He crossed his arms in a frustrated manner as he awaited Andria’s response, if she decided to make one.
