(ooc) The new halfling building thread

Recommended Posts

Yo gamers I'm back at it. Here's my attempt at making a burrow that looks like it's from Ardacraft.

You can see the sorta style I'm trying to replicate on this Shire tour:

Anyways, onto the build

Me trying to replicate some of the hobbit hole entrance stuff I saw on Ardacraft (I ended up deviating from their design a fair bit)

Laying down the frame for the rest of the burrow!

Starting to cover it up with dirt and figure out what the heck I'ma do for the exterior burrow facade.

First cover of grass, raw and unrefined. This will be polished up a TON so no worries.

Making good use of the top of the burrow! Far too many of my previous builds didn't put anything major on top of the burrow, and I'm mixing things up for this one. A little farm and a scarecrow ought to do well!

Adding a tree! This is how I make trees by the way. I lay out the skeleton with wood and then place a bunch of leaves all around it (as well as mushrooms and some roots at the bottom and branches from fences etc etc etc)

The finished exterior. Lookin' quite fancy indeed!

Same view but from above. You can see the farm and path work I did for this burrow a lot better in this screenshot.

The backside of the burrow. I love making tree roots so naturally there's tons of them everywhere. All of the flowers are hand placed as well, I only used bonemeal for some extra grass here and there.

Let's take a look at the interior I've built for this burrow...

2021-05-01_19.19.29.png

This is the entrance room. It is also the dining room. I probably should've made this room one block longer in hindsight, since it was hard to get a good table setup that didn't impede movement too much. Regardless, this current design is functional.

Notice the use of trapdoors on the ceiling to represent wooden beam supports. Not every bit of log in this burrow has ceiling supports attached to it, but a fair bit of it does.

A small study complete with a window and bookshelf. From the image above, you turn to the left to get here and head through a single spruce door.

This is the kitchen, to the right of the dining room through a spruce door yet again. I really love how this room turned out. For a small, 3x3 kitchen, it really has everything you'd want in a halfling cookery. There's mushrooms, storage (even some under the floor!), a crafting table, and a fancy looking extinguished campfire to represent a food rack. The fireplace connects with another part of the burrow as well, so it's double-sided.

Straight ahead from the dining room is the burrow's main hallway. There are three bedrooms attached to this hallway, as well as some added storage and roleplay flair.

The master bedroom, with a clock, storage, and armor stand to keep your clothes on while you're sleeping!

Normal bedroom number one. Nothing special about this room. It's just two beds and two barrels under the table with leaves on it.

2021-05-01_19.20.25.png

I got a bit fancier with the second bedroom. I'm not sure what the mushroom on fence is supposed to represent, but I like it anyways. The table in this room has cake on it as well as storage beneath it.

Looking back from the second bedroom towards the rest of the hallway. You can see how the hallway shifts over a block, how the dining room and hallway are connected, as well as more detail about the fireplace shared between the kitchen and hallway. At the far left of this screenshot you can also glimpse the wood storage, just in case you need to throw another log on during the winter.

Heading back to the dining room, more detail is visible, as well as how the entrance has been modified to appear as though it is actually circular rather than just a rectangular door. This is something I stole straight from Ardacraft.

So, what do you guys on the forums think of my burrow? How can I improve on this style?

Love it! It's cozy and well decorated. Definitely looks lived in. I especially love the exterior - how you decorated the top and sides with trees and small garden plots. Thanks for sharing with us.
