An Attack Most Foul

In the square of New Providence, Baron Manfred erected a pillar of a controversial nature. It called for Orenians to slaughter all Haenseni, a unilateral decision by the Baron and his ‘Brotherhood of Man’.

Helton Rhodes Helvets is no friend to the Haenseni. From a young age he has held mistrust and resentment toward them - a lingering effect from an attack on his House by the King of Haense himself. Even so, the ducal heir understood that a tentative peace with the northmen was angled to be struck.

 

Thus, Helton approached Manfred in the square and said plainly: “His Majesty is pursuing peace with the Haenseni.”In response, the Baron Manfred spat and then drew a crossbow. So Helton returned in kind.

 

“Open your mouth, so I may feed you this bolt,” said the Norlander baron.

 

The Ruric fired first. He missed. Helton did not.

 

Unfortunately for the Helvetii, the Baron’s henchmen were close at hand. They descended upon him with sword and mace, cleaving and smashing. Helton was rendered incapacitated quickly before peace was brought to the square. His younger sister, Ruby of the Astercalia, stepped in to stop them from killing the heir, but was also violently attacked with blades and kicks. His other sister raised her own blade in defense, thwarting the Baron’s own son’s attempt at splitting the Ducal Heir’s head from his form.

 

Each side was dragged away so their wounds could be tended to.

 

It was a bloodthirsty attack. It will not be forgotten.

An aged Major moved to carry Helton to safety within the Bastion, tending to the man's wounds for time afterwards.

Laurentina weeps at Helton's bedside after having tended to his wounds. She could only pray he would awaken soon. With a tremble in her voice, the Helvets turned to her older sister Guinevera and stated; "I can never forget or forgive this. They tried to take part of our family when we have so little of it left. I pray the bastard will be arrested and put to a trial for his crimes." She fell silent for a while as Vera spoke and soon added; "Blood of my blood and bone of my bone. An attack upon one of us is an attack upon all of us."

Thus, the Helvets began tending to the minor cuts and bruises she has sustained as she tried to get one of those aggressors to stop trying to cut Helton's head off.

Lieutenant Colonel Quinn Darkwood would look back and what he saw and the witness reports he heard and note "It would appear we have traitors among our peers, how despicable"  he would note and begin to write a report for the general and council of state on the matter.
