Arichsdorf Clothing Vault

Spoiler

The Township of Arichsdorf has been inundated with bright-eyed colonists from the southern lands, each seeking to make their fortune on the frontier. These masses of immigrants generally arrive at the town penniless with no skills to their name. To that end, the Arichsdorf Town Council has collected contributions from the community to provide new colonists with climate-appropriate and fashionable clothing. This program has the added benefit of not only providing new colonists with appropriate clothing but also informing citizens of Arichsdorf about the various modes of fashion that are can be found in the township.

OOC: The Arichsdorf community has put together a skin vault for new players seeking to play more northern type human or elf characters.

ALL SKINS IN THIS THREAD ARE MADE BY Scubaskinning who can be found at https://scubaskinning.carrd.co/# I highly recommend her if you are looking to commission skins, very reasonable, quick to do edits, etc. You can find examples of her work here https://www.planetminecraft.com/member/scubadooba/ Planet Minecraft

Women's Selection

The women of Arichsdorf, admittedly a rarity in the frontier enjoy communicating in the ever flowing 'language of colours', wherein status, wealth and opinion are all spoken through the silent language of clothing and dye. Always maintaining the famous peace and quiet of the frontier town, silent blood feuds are waged as the various women of Arichsdorf seek to outdo each other. The two main competing fashions are those who seek to emulate the courtly ladies of Providence with their flamboyant colours and impractical clothing, these are generally contrasted with more muted and practical clothing indicating a love of Arichsdorf and the northern lands.

The typical garb of the wife of a wealthy Arichsdorf Burgher or one of the more flamboyant local gentry. The colours are bright copying more southern styles and the fabric is thinner and less durable, indicating that the wearer does not spend much of their time travelling or labouring.

The typical outfit of one of Arichsdorf's many craftswomen. The durable quality materials combined with the more muted and affordable colours indicate that the wearer works with their hands and makes a comfortable living off of her labours.

The colder colours of this outfit indicate that the wearer, while wealthy, likely the wife of a local knight or burgher is more conservative in outlook. Within Arichsdorf colder colours are usually used to indicate affiliation with the 'Grenz' region and a love of the northern. Within Arichsdorf women will often signal their political and factional affiliations not with words, but with clothing.

The outfit of an Arichsdorf tavern maid, the clothing of a finer quality than someone of her status could usually afford, she works with her hands and often entertains the patrons of the tavern with song. Despite the finer quality of the material it is still very durable. The presence of an apron clearly signals that this woman works indoors for a living.

The thick fabric, multiple layers of clothing and muted colours clearly demonstrate that this woman works for a living and is frequently outdoors doing manual labour. Likely a successful farmer or the owner of a fine herd of cattle. The more muted red that dominates her overcoat is a rejection of the more tropical reds and oranges enjoyed by some of the more providence focused wealthy wives of Arichsdorf. Her muted reds match the reds of the Von Arichsdorfs and indicate her loyalty to the family rather than the broader north which would be indicated with muted blues.

Men's Selection

The men of Arichsdorf generally avoid the 'language of colours', that being said that will generally gravitate towards darker reds and various muted cold colours. All men in Arichsdorf regardless of status will wear thicker more durable clothing as even the highest status men are expected to travel and be outdoors frequently. Men who wish to signal their politics or their allegiances will generally do so by wearing a brightly coloured patterned sash about their waist. These sashes are most common in the lead up to the Arichsdorf election for Lawspeaker.

The thick fabric, multiple layers and fine material indicate that the wearer is a successful working man, likely working with Arichsdorf bees or with a large herd of cattle. The fine fur trim indicates either unusual wealth for his station or a man who is fond of fine clothing.

The humble leathers and skins of this outfit display the working life lived by the wearer. This outfit is almost universally worn by the various hunters of Arichsdorf and by a number of the less affluent crop farmers and herdsmen.

The several layers of material combined with the heavy gloves indicate that this is a working man probably a farmer or a herdsman. The muted colours suggest that the wearer does not have much money to invest in elaborate dyes and is probably on the poorer side of things.

This outfit is clearly the posession of one of Arichsdorf's more wealthy citizens. Either one of the local landed gentry such as the Ingvarings and Romstuns or one of the many successful Burghers who populate the northern trade town. The sash at his waist is his indication of familial and factional loyalties. His back is covered by a luxurious cloak, an item of said quality generally only being affordable to the wealthier citizens of Arichsdorf.

The thicker materials and heavy gloves combined with the multiple layers indicate that this is a working man, however the quality of the materials and the dye employed in his clothes suggest he is of middling wealth. He is likely a herdsman or a bee shepherd.

I've always been of the opinion that culture should be more than just 'accents' I think haense does a good job of communicating culture via clothing. its something other groups should try to encourage as well. The issue a lot of new players have is the barrier to entry. They don't know what they don't know and have a tough time integrating into 10 year old ooc cultures where you'r expected to have a certain quality of skin etc. Had these made to help new players in Arichs.

Daniel lives in fear of the sheer strength of Arichsdorfian family values, having had no idea that people could simply make clothes for each other rather than for the sole benefit of the bourgeois elite. He looks upon the unfolding of current events with great fear!
