THE MATRIARCH READING OVER HER LETTER

A missive penned and spread by a single woman. It found its way to the message boards in the Kingdom of Oren, and to the most important place it required, the hands of King Frederick I of Oren. Its contents hold the thoughts and oaths of the last loyal Darkwood, and why she had been silent until now.

It pains me to have to write this so soon after my return to Noble society. After my travels to the North, my research into my family’s past, and my quiet life in Mardon, I had decided to help my dear cousin rebuild the Darkwood Family. That was indeed my original plan, until recent events stayed my hand. I do not hate my family. To ask that of me would be nothing short of cruel. After years away from them, I suppose it is no wonder that they would ignore my thoughts on the matter, and decide to side with false claimants to the Crown.

I am not a political woman. I have not thought of myself as such since the day I was born. I was born of action, and I hold myself to the same standard through every breath I take. I am a Hunter, a Leatherworker. A simple woman who had wished to bring honor to the name that I held. Now I am alone once again.

In my travels, I discovered my family’s past. That we are of Old Kaedrin, of Agren. That our roots extend to the cultures and traditions far beyond what we had first thought. That our true name was Darcheviede. Now I bear this name. Before the sundering of our great Empire, I had shared such knowledge with my Cousin. I do not hate him. I cannot hate him. He is family.

But I must make what choice is best for me, and the future of my family. Though I am the only Darcheviede who is yet loyal to the Crown, to the Successor that the Emperor and Empress chose of their own volition, I must make this decision alone. I, Orelia Irina Darcheviede, stand alone against my Family as they turn to false claimants and fickle politics. I denounce their choices, and call them for what they are: easy excuses to push their agenda. My cousin has chosen his fate, I cannot do for him any more than pray that our King has mercy on his misguided ways.

As Matriarch of the new branch of the Darcheviede family, I swear fealty to the Crown of Oren. To the rightful King of Oren, King Frederick I. The words of one woman may do little to overturn the wrongs that my family has committed. But let it be known that not all Darcheviedes, not all Darkwoods, choose to stand against the Crown. I am also well prepared to make the same swear before the King in his own Court.

As a final note, I wish to inform you of all of the new path that my family has taken. In the near future, I shall make public to all the Darcheviede Codex, a revision of my own design of our family history. Let it be known that the Darkwood family has retaken its former title, and relearned what it means to be a Darcheviede.

FOR KING AND COUNTRY,

Orelia Irina Darcheviede,

Charles, the late father of Orelia Irina smiled down upon his daughter with pride.

Drako Darkwood would raise a brow reading the post “Orelia… What the hell is this” he would say with a disappointed frown
