“Hear us clear: this Century of Humiliation is nearing its close. The long years of the 19th Century have not looked kindly upon the sons and daughters of Horen, and much of this misfortune was sown by our own hands.”

Charlie the Cagey

PREFACE

The Kingdom of Aaun has sought to oppress the folk of Acre since the kingdom’s very conception, violating the terms of surrender conferred upon Acre by the many countries in the known world of Almaris who decried Volker the Exile’s own warmongering a mere three to four years ago. In the treatise A Pact Sealed issued by The Alliance, it was broadly proclaimed that if the fiefdoms in the alliance of the Harvest Confederacy sought to secede, they would be given the right to do so. In seeking to determine the right to sovereignty and self-determination for my people, the Faux-King Charlie the Cagey threatened us time and time again with war.

No Kings but Us. These words were agreed to by all proponents of the latest Revolution, one of three such kin strifes that saw the end to the legacy of the Eighth Holy Orenian Empire and its bastardized remnant the Kingdom of Oren. These words were promised to us, yet the descendants of the Pertinaxi bastard Charles Elliot Horen still dog our steps like bloodthirsty hounds. The erasure of our culture, our polity, and our people being the first and foremost goal of these usurpers, if you could even call them that. To be a usurper you require marshal strength that far exceeds that of which they are capable of as a nation.

Men who preach drivel that exceeds the true might of their quill and sword. Inept, short-sighted, foolhardy and slanderous, they endeavor only to weaken Humanity with their weak ideological pandering and ceaseless smarmy backroom deals with the elite who wish to depose the rightful sovereignty of Acre. Sovereignty that has precedence, as the Republic of the Petra were themselves allowed to secede from the nascent ‘kingdom’ that The Cagey erected in the ruins of New Vienne, seeking only to restore the glory of a bygone kingdom rife with despotism.

The brave champions who felled the Last King of Oren were noble men. Among their principles for the founding of the Harvest Confederacy was ensuring that Humanity was emancipated from oppression by the Nobility who sought only to own all the means of production and to siphon away the very lifeblood of the common people. Common people who were underrepresented in every workforce, every parliament, and every city.

They smear us, they insult us, they bereave us of our elders. They enabled the spilling of blood and the slaughter of countless noble lives, the hearts of The Cagey’s followers beating true to the dull war drums behooved to the words of Iblees. Upon my communication of our terms of secession to the ill-minded Alstion bastard, Charlie the Cagey attempted to usher his men to draw blades. They hesitated, their weary and womanly hands trembling before their blades left their scabbards. That is when I felt pity for the wanton callousness at which the so-called ‘king’ was willing to throw away the lives of his men. A cardinal boomed, asking for the men to put away their swords; but they ignored the good clergyman. In good faith, we left upon being prompted by a Prince of Haense to evade conflict. For this we are grateful, as to have spilled the blood of kin no matter how distant would have been a sad affair for us men of Acre. Nonetheless, we do rectify this conflict by severing ourselves from the dictatorial state that has violated the treatise enacted by the Kingdoms of Hanseti-Ruska and Balian as well as the majority of the international community.

THE SEVERANCE

“All members of the Confederacy will be given leave to secede should they wish to do so, furthermore, the Commonwealth of the Petra WILL secede from the Confederacy of the Harvest Lords.”

A Pact Sealed

We, the People of Acre, whole-heartedly separate ourselves from the military junta that rules the campo of Aaun, and wholly condemn the dictator Charlie the Cagey. In doing so, we acquire our sovereignty and self-determination as prescribed by the treatise A Pact Sealed.

Signed,

Wolfgang de Vilain, Baron of Acre

"On this day, another Kingdom must pay the way to allow Acre to farm freely. A choice that they must follow with their own signatures that offered us the chance to do this." Cynefrith Easworth would smile, looking over his lands

"No kings but us." Echoed the loyal bannerman, Wilfred of Acre. "Godan guide us, may this end without further war, I wish to farm in peace." Yet, he knew better than to hope for peace, and instead embraced what was to come, ensuring his gear was ready.

"This, this they cannot take. This they'll never take, it's what he would have wanted. It's what he would have wanted."

Valentin muttered almost incoherently, holding the paper, comparing it to another missive.

"If they wanted to secede, they could have done so as I reformed the Confederacy into a Kingdom - after they voted me to lead them." The Prince of Alstion complained to his fellow councilors huddled over a display of maps and pieces as news of the Acrean rebuttal was brought to him.

Dzmitry Barrow smirked a touch. "They have made their bed- let them sleep in it. Were it not for their incompetent predecessors they would never have found themselves in this position to begin with. If this is their desire, so be it. Let this be the final chapter of the family Vilain."

Cliff puffed his pipe from his southerly underground home, clutching the missive on top of his reading desk.

"They weren't kiddin', huh? No kings but us... They're gonna get me back in their levy, at this rate."

Eadan, a poor farmer recruited by Lord de Vilain by accident does not know what is it all about, instead he leans against the castle's wall and glances at his polished pitchfork "Me bridge will not be crossed" He murmured to himself before chewing on his apple
