Explanation

There are two different issues which occur in the following report. The first, is the issue of targetted harassment, where Syth refers to me as a Terf and as a supporter of Eugenics. The second is an issue of targetting my Character, for OOC reasons.

Eugenics

 

I returned to a severely inactive Haelun’or and had decided to revive it. The following is something I posted into the Haelun’or Discord, in the general chat;

There is nothing offensive about this post, nothing harmful, nothing against any kind of rule or whatever, yet the response issued by Syth was incredibly rude, insulting, and against at least one server rule - Harassment;

Syth has claimed, in a public Discord by the way, that not only am I a Terf, but a supporter of Eugenics. Let me remind you of some examples of Eugenics in action throughout History;

- The strategic establishment of Abortion Clinics in predominantly Black Neighbourhoods in America (By the notorious Racist and Eugenicist Margaret Sanger), with the aim of decreasing the Black population in America.
- Nazi Germany where ~6 million Jews were exterminated.

- The forced sterilization of minority ethnicities, the physically/mentally disabled and other groups.

 

Syth’s ‘proof’ is a quotation that he himself wrote, not a screenshot of something I’ve said, referring to an apparent strategy? In a video-game;

Now, disregarding how incredibly flawed his logic is, this is quite ironic considering that I have invested quite a considerable amount of my IRL life to combatting Eugenics, and quite publicly at that.

 

But the most ironic part of this, is that Syth’s character, Silvos - is the person who created the notorious Acid Pits of Haelun’or. Now, if we use Syth’s logic, Syth in his real life, is the Eugenecist here.

The following screenshot summarizes quite succinctly my views on this allegation so I will not make any additional comment here.

OOC Targetting

 

Syth has made it abundantly clear that his targeting of my Character’s Status as Malaurir (think Pope-Emeritus), is a result of his OOC feelings towards me. The procedure for removing that status is done by convocation of the Council of Malauriran where they vote to remove one’s status - this did not happen, yet Syth insists, both in-game and in Discord, because of his dislike for me that my Character doesn’t possess this status. I’d like to also point out that Syth does not play the game actively anymore.

Here we can clearly see Syth pivot from attacking me/my character for his OOC disliking of me, to a different issue - namely to a view my character holds. He isn’t even subtle about this, in fact he has threatened me in the past about this very matter;

As you can see, this is from last year - Syth has a History now of harassing me. To back up my point, I dm’d him during the course of his harassment shown above and this was his response;

When he tells me to “Keep my head down”, he’s referring to me getting active in the community again and playing my character in a way contrary to what he likes. Additionally, Syth has posted a total of 4 times since November of 2023 on the Forums, twice of which, have been to attack my character;

I reached out to two moderators of the Discord to resolve the matter, though action was only taken against me. My comment where I referred to him by his first name was removed (rightfully so, this was not malicious on my behalf), though his accusations and harassment was not only allowed to continue, but accepted and even encouraged, with myself being threatened with punishment, with moderator’s watching and commenting.

Alrighty then, here we are. First and foremost, my apologies to anyone who has had to sit through these admittedly toxic and ridiculous conversations. I'm not experienced whatsoever in responding to ban reports, but I'll try my best.

Before addressing the points made above, I will prefix this with the message I sent Gavin minutes before this report went up, which explains the beginning of this campaign of harassment. I do hereby also confess to the accusation of harassment. 




After the incident between Gavin and the abovementioned, I went out of my way to create a rift between Gavin and the Malauriran, as well as Haelun'or itself. I did this in an effort to protect the reputation and status of the friends I have made over the past 11 years, most of whom sit on this Malauriran council. It also serves as my attempt to settle things without having to resort to reports. 

To further justify my actions, it has to be noted that being a classic Puritan high elf is and has always been a dangerous thing to be from an OOC perspective. We roleplay horrid racism, queerphobia and bloodline purity, which is why it is of the utmost importance we make it abundantly clear OOCly we are- and always have been a community of allies to the LGBTQ+ cause, with many of us being a part of that group ourselves, myself included. This leads to any situation where a person exhibits any of our character's views OOCly becoming a major threat to the entire community, therefore in my eyes reason for concern and removal of the member from the community.

I will now try to respond to each point made above to clear up and give my reasoning for things.

Eugenics
The quote regarding the Eugenics is one I received as a quote from you from a third party who will remain anonymous. I had no context surrounding this text, but I trust the person who sent it to me, so I took it as truthful. If this was not the case as you have by this point stated several times, I will accept that and disregard it from this point on. I am however concerned that you follow this up by deflecting the accusation back on me for the actions of my character many years ago, once again underlining the importance of seperating character from player.

Terf
The terf accusation needs no further explanation. It is a stain on your past, for which you have apologized. Though our views will never fully be aligned on basis of your belief, you have made it clear you have no intent on letting that belief influence your treatment of others. To defend, I want to state I do not confess to harassment on basis of religion. I do not judge others for what they believe, nor do I go out of my way to talk people out of their faith. I only judge others for any harmful behaviour or treatment that may come from these beliefs, so if you can truly say this is not the case, this point becomes null and void.

IC targetting on basis of OOC
As can be seen in the screenshots, I have confessed to IC targetting on basis of OOC. My character, like Gavin's, is an OG High elf from the days of 2.0 Haelun'or. They have certain strong traditions and cultural standpoints, centered around the founder of Haelun'orian culture, Larihei. Gavin's character has over the past years deified this character, which goes against the traditional value of the origin of the high elves. As Gavin's character is a Malaurir, high elves are expected to listen to him when it comes to culture, hence why my character denounced him so his wrongful views would not be taken for gospel. Though this is a valid IC reasoning, it was fuelled by my OOC reasoning for wanting Gavin denounced.

The malauriran vote
A vote was held for the removal of Braxus' malauriran status on the basis of his deification of Larihei. Unfortunately, as there is an agreement the discord in which this vote was held is never to be screenshotted and shared, I cannot provide proof of this, as I am certain those who voted would wish to stay as far away from this situation as possible. A total of 6 votes, including my own, were in favour of his removal. The other malauriran did not respond, rendering them abstained. This regards his IC position as a Malaurir (former cultural leader of Haelun'or), yet is linked to the OOC position of Malaurir, which serves to uphold our community values outside of the game. As a result of this, his Malaurir discord role was removed, which aligned with my opinion that one who is not an ally should not be an exemplar in historically one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly communities this server has known since its inception.

Keeping his head down
This goes back to my initial arguement of not wanting Gavin to be a public figure considering his past, as it could tarnish the reputation of high elves, old and new. 

Chat moderation
Though I don't disagree with you being timed out in the Helf discord, I do agree it was handled unfairly. I should have also been timed out, we were both being toxic. I do want to point out the hypocrisy in you calling me out for publicly shaming you when I could have dm'ed you, as you have time and time again responded not only to me but also other parties involved by posting about it in public channels, and now with this report.

Threat
Though I personally wish for this whole ordeal to be over, and having already apologized, I do want to underline my actions were amplified after Gavin, who we refer to by his first name as it is the norm for him and his username on the forums, called me out by my first name in a context where this is absolutely not the norm and untirely uncalled for, of which I am certain he is aware. Edit: I'd like to add I don't appreciate him posting it publically on the forums either after I made it clear I am uncomfortable having my name out even in the helf general chat.

So, to wrap this up, I'll say it again: I'm sorry. I truly am. I was toxic, I went out of my way to create a rift between you and the community we've both been a part of for 11 years, and I did not accept your apology. I do now. The only thing I can do from here is hope you'll be a better man than I was and accept mine, though by your posting of this report after my initial apology I fear it won't be so easy. If this results in a ban, I hope it will serve to let me cool off before eventually being allowed to return. I do love popping in every now and then for a nostalgia tour.
