Soul Soother [T3 |  Rare]

Background

The options to heal oneself from malflame burns are awfully limited, in an attempt to remedy this, The Wildflower Alchemist of Ak’vei begun developing a treatment over many years, much of it being set back by the death of Xan, though eventually something came of it. The Soul Soother is not necessarily a way of healing, moreso a way of numbing the pain and nightmares instead, it is only unfortunate that through this project it was discovered that alchemy could never achieve a way to completely heal the soul.

Effects

Upon application, the oil will numb the effects of malflame burns, it will sooth flares of pain and heal the appearance of the burn upon the skin with regular application. It should be noted this does not heal the affliction on the soul itself, rather numbs it until one is able to find a magical means to complete the healing process.

Right after treatment the feeling can be described as warm and comforting, however if the character is of a dark MA or CA, an unpleasant stinging sensation would be felt instead. Both these sensations will last for a short amount of time whilst numbing takes place.

If the area were to be hit with malflame again, the numbing sensation would be immediately neutralised and the regular excruciating pain accompanied with the flame would ensue. Reapplication is required once out of combat.

The Soul Soother may be used as a continuous treatment for as long as desired, one bottle usually lasting one OOC week, though it would mean the victim must have a steady supply of the treatment to remain numbed. Suddenly stopping the treatment will cause an intense flare up of the accumulated pain, which may render the individual immobilised in excruciating pain for an IRP hour if they have been using the Soul Soother for long enough.

Redlines

Spoiler

- The uncomfortable sensation dark CAs and MAs experience is not debilitating, simply a mild annoyance that is easily hidden. Soul Soother may not be used as a ‘spook’ test nor can it be used to harm dark CAs or MAs.

- There is no visible reaction on application, the physical scar fades over regular application.

- If applied to an unburnt area, the sensation of comfort (or discomfort) will follow, however will quickly fade with no other effect.

- The immobilisation effect will happen upon the player’s discretion as it requires the consistent use of the treatment before stopping suddenly.

- The numbing only affects the malflame burn, being hit or cut in the same area will still elicit regular pain.

- Soul Soother cannot be used to put out malflame.

- Soul Soother cannot be applied during combat at any time, the patient must be in a stable and safe environment (out of combat).

- This potion is considered rare alchemical knowledge and must have the appropriate learning RP

- No ST signature required.

Definitely would be usefull given we're down a malflame treating method. Th idea of a painkiller for soul-pain is a good take on that too!

Howeverv-- bit of a note about the affect on dark CAs.

Since malflame affects the soul, and this is meant to treat that soul damage, would it then make sense to specify it causes pain to a corrupted/modified soul? And that things w/o a soul see no effect (because there's nothing for the potion to act on). Something 2 consider maybe?? Not entirely sure.
