Holy Father,

Last night I was visited by an apparition. A flash of great and holy light (which I can only now compare to how I remember the sun) burnt my eyes as a voice cut through my prayer. Venerable Remus Lucien Ashford de Bar revealed himself.. He told me; you must build a place for us. For the blind, the lame, the deaf and the mute!

So now I seek your permission to relieve me from the College of Cardinals and my duties as Archbishop of Lotharia so that I might take monastic vows. The priests in Balian, especially Father Ivan—whose name has reached me even in my seclusion—will do well to succeed me.

My brother and sister Cardinals, Caius Primus,

Each moment we spent together was a blessing and though I lament we will no longer be men and women of the Curia, let us not lose this bond.  Whoever takes up my mantle as auditor, I know, will continue this Godly work.

Mattia Cardinal Lotharia, Auditor of the Canonist Church.
