Liam5232 450 Share Posted July 15, 2024 [World Lore] - [Liquid Mana] Material Name and Description (Raw form) Liquid Mana is mana in a raw and liquefied form, hidden within all, and sometimes generated in the world through an irregularity of magic in some areas, or generated through any form of mage via a ritual. This ritual varies in form, but typically has the mage focusing on some container, and eventually channeling it in a liquid form to fill it with up to 6 Fluid Oz (~175ml). On its own, Liquid Mana has quite a few properties. The liquid can either be somewhat viscous like a syrup or flow similar to water. It comes in a variety of colors, but typically matches the mage's aura if not affected by outside means. The effects of flavor, glow, smell, etc also change between sources. It can be as sweet as pure sugar, sour, or even bitter, although the effects are easily dissipated off the tongue and out of the air with water or a bit of wind. It is oftentimes fizzy, though it heavily depends on the mage. Oftentimes, Liquid Mana is used in products for its unique effects. Without specific substances (Aqua Vitae, Auric Oil, Etc), liquid mana doesn't seem to degrade, and when mixed with other items, it distributes its properties making sparkly frosting, fizzy chocolate, scented candles, special paints, etc. Applications (Raw Form) This liquid—found throughout areas with high manic aptitude, or through a magic user—has a fair amount of applications, with the potential to be used for more studies and ritual. It can be used in various potions, able to be made as a new potion, or as a base for interesting alchemical concoctions; a newfound fuel for arcane enchantments, and finally - means for crafting inks with magical properties. It has also found its way into the culinary and artistry world with it’s unique compositions, taste, colors, etc. The liquefied and potent mana is something of nurture to creatures tainted and twisted by magical means, be they unnatural, void corrupted beings, voidal horrors, or even the transcendent Archons. While some may not require food or some form of nutrients, it still feels filling; to those that do, it can substitute normal food. It might be common for twisted and corrupted creatures to linger about pools of liquid essence, and perhaps develop an ecosystem about it. Some of the natural pools are known to carry some voidal taint, twisting the earth about it. Those legendary pools have eldritch power, perhaps providing insight to those that drink it, or twisting the creatures—mentally and physically—that dare to sip from the ambrosia. If one were to sip standard Liquid Mana from a naturally occurring pool, they would typically find that it is tasteless, doing nothing but inducing a surreal sensation as the energy courses through their bodies. Red Lines (Raw Form) Twisted creatures and the rarer voidal pools must be roleplayed by an approved ST Member. Sipping Liquid Mana provides no combat advantage. Liquid Mana generated from the soul (Bardmancy, Housemagery, etc.) will typically produce liquid mana that is more pleasing to the senses. An essence pool must be represented through water, requiring a sign that denotes it being odd and seemingly unnatural in some sense. Liquid Mana's effects may not be concentrated past the original content. Higher Tier mages may produce a Liquid Mana with greater definition of effects. The less concentrated mana, the less its effects can be felt before dropping to nothing at less than 25%. All effects including smell, taste, fizz, etc. may not overwhelm the senses, and can easily be displaced with water, a calm breeze, etc. The effects of Liquid Mana cannot be used to disguise poison or any other harmful substances. Glow is limited to a faint light useless for general lighting, and restricted to a 2x2x2 meter area of effect. Harvesting Method To create a draw of liquid mana, a mage must channel their aura into a small area, and small droplets will form. A mage must remain focused during this process. If disturbed, the mana would splash on the floor, and fizzle out. Once the liquid mana has been made, a mage may direct it into a container.A mage may also focus on a container to fill it with 6 fl oz (~175 ml) of liquid mana. They must be in physical contact with the container to directly fill it. Liquid Mana may be represented by a colored bottle appropriately named, Somewhere in the name or description, it must include “Liquid Mana” Harvesting Red Lines When making Liquid Mana from one's self, it will siphon mana from the person, meaning it will require an hour's recharge to fully recharge. A mage may draw up to 5 times before feeling weak and needing 6 hours to recharge. 1 Draw is roughly equal to 6 oz (~175 ml) Liquid Mana cannot be made while in combat, severely injured, in distress, etc. Purpose (OOC) Liquid mana was originally made (as far as I know) purely to make Auric Oil. Today it has become the basis for so many things, and to see the old lore shelved and move to a subsection of alchemy is very disappointing. Liquid mana should be something that can be proudly displayed by magi, and used in crafts by bards. I personally believe that Liquid mana is too important to simply be a footnote in an alchemy page!
