Hear our wails, tears, and cries, o’ Great-One.

Feel the clash of our iron swords and shields.

See the plight of your daughters and sons.

Smell the blood on once bountiful fields.

THE START OF THE WAR:

On the once-hidden continent of Obblegon, the ruins of the once-lost Hidden City, Oblazekos, were re-discovered by explorers of House Fargrum. However, as the explorers entered the city, they discovered that Oblazekos was already mostly rebuilt and that the former ruins were populated by the remnant gnomes after the fall, including a self-declared reincarnation of Oblazek who ruled the remnants known as Gelbin. The explorers of Fargrum were denied entry into the city and declared cowards for fleeing during the catastrophe. This action deeply angered the explorers, who took offense to this. Why would fellow gnomes deny gnomes entry to their sacred city? The Fargrumish Gnominarchs contacted the Houses of Oblazek’s Folk across the world, announcing the retaking of Oblazekos as well as the spire within the center, rumored to contain the remains of Oblazek and his legendary felt cap. Gnomes of all the houses flocked to the city's outskirts, hoping to pressure Gelbin to respond to peaceful demands. However, on a fateful night, a few scouting tents of House Fargrum erupted into flames, with only the remains of bloodied and desecrated gnomes left. Whether the Gelbinites or another party started this fire is unknown. However, the Triumvirate Houses were enraged by this attack, pinning the culprit to the Gelbinites and declaring war.

THE TRIUMVIRATE HOUSES:

The Triumvirate Houses of Aob, Thordin, and Fargrum have an army of diverse gnomes in massive quantities. Led by a war council of six rather than holding a singular leader, each house has two leaders in this council. Even with their shared lineage, each of the gnomish houses is unique in its methods of conflict, making them versatile. This diversity leads to frequent disagreements on how the war should progress both in the war council and the army. Despite this, the Triumvirate has the singular goal of retaking the city that keeps them from separating. The House of Aob, descendants of the wise reincarnation, became the engineers of war machines and tools. The House of Thordin, descendants of the courageous reincarnation, became the fighters on the battlefield. Finally, the House of Fargrum, descendants of the wandering reincarnation, became guerilla fighters.

THE GELBINITES:

The Gelbinites, ruled by the self-proclaimed reincarnation of Oblazek, Gelbin, are numerous and have possession of advanced gnomish technology, including magical weapons and armor. Gelbin himself is a brilliant strategist, utilizing this advanced technology to its fullest. However, Gelbin is known to over-rely on this technology and is usually locked in the spire of Oblazekos. Yet despite being smaller in number, the Gelbinites are well-trained and are arguably more disciplined than the Triumvirate.

THE WAR AND ITS EFFECTS:

The war between the Triumvirate and the Gelbinites, also known as the Whimsical War, is unlike the wars of other races and is best described as passive. Battles are few and far between. Most battles are small-scale guerilla battles between very few gnomes. Even when battlefield fights happen, it is trench warfare with a no-man's land. This confrontation often leaves gnomes on both sides with a high level of anxiety due to their peaceful nature, resulting in desertion from the war.

These battles also scar the land and cause mutations in gnomes, plants, and animals in the area due to the use of magical artillery and weapons by the Gelbinites and even sometimes the Triumvirate. Battles leave the area afterward an inhabitable wasteland unlikely to recover.

THE MODERN DAY:

To this day, the Triumvirate Houses and the Gelbinites are at a permanent stalemate. Slowly, the continent of Obblegon rots from excessive magical use, causing refugees and deserters to flee to other lands, including Aevos and beyond.

I recently bought a lawn gnome, and suddenly the next morning it disappeared. I then found a small shovel in my bath tub, I think they are in my walls.
