Queen Catherine I believed in attempting unity within the Heartland states. Her dream was one of hope for the future, and a stronger identity for the people of both Aaun and the Petra. Catherine I also believed that failure was not the end; that something not working as intended is a lesson to be learned from instead of being ashamed of. While the working relationship between King John of Aaun, and Queen Catherine was close and enduring, and the beginning of the merge was promising under their rulership due to their aligned visions and opinions, their sudden passing caused that close relationship to not be passed down to both successors. The King and Queen had not been able to set up the institutions, council, and peoples to have that same close relationship: The merge had still been a large work in progress upon their deaths.

Reeling from the sudden changes and new leadership, the two provinces of the Heartlander Confederation began to develop further divisions within institutions of the nation, becoming more than ever before Petran or Aaunite. With how clearly each province values their individual identity of their Kingdoms, it is clear that a merge is no longer in the best interest of the two peoples, but a close relationship where that division is allowed and respected.

Though the split of the Heartlands may seem sudden and tumultuous, it reflects far more on the endurance and differences in identity of the two nations. Though they are not one singular people, still humanity can band together to defend against threats, still humanity can stand side by side, while embracing what makes us varied, and strong.

Many of the Commonwealth’s previous institutions shall be reinstated, but with new wisdom and changes gifted to us by our time within the Heartlandic Confederation. A new military order shall be established, alongside a complete restructuring of the River Court, ushering in an era of reform and renewal.

The Chancellor and River Council

The elected Lord Chancellor of the Heartlands is an Aaunic peer, and thus shall be staying with his liege Lord. In the interest of allowing time and stability before the nation goes through a new election, the runner up, Miss Amélie Auclair, shall take up the mantle of Lady Chancellor. Further changes to the River Council shall be announced soon, though let it be known that the Commonwealth has swiftly formed a functioning and full council to guide the nation.

The Catherinian Code and Lawbook

The original Catherinian Code shall be reinstated as the law and constitution of the Commonwealth of the Petra, with some needed changes crafted by the Queen and her council to reflect this new age of our nation. Further amendments may be proposed in the coming years in order to further refine the code.

The Knights of the Petra, and the Swords of Saint Emma

With the dissolution of the Legion of Saint Godwin, a new military order shall be established to guard the Commonwealth, known henceforth as the Swords of Saint Emma. Soldiers previously serving within the Legion must swear themselves anew if they wish to pledge their service to the Commonwealth of the Petra. Until they have sworn this oath, they will be considered undecided and inactive within their institution.

New documents on both the Knights of the Petrine Laurel, and the future of the army shall be released swiftly.

The Garmont Assembly

A meeting will be held between the Grand Speaker and their aides to discuss the possibility of new elections, or upholding previous ones. The Garmont shall resume as it worked before the merge, being made up of Petran peers, a military representative, and three elected members of the Commonwealth. It will return to altering the Catherinian Code for law changes, and the Garmont is encouraged to scour the Lawbook for articles that require updating.

Address to the Commonwealth

In order to address the people directly in this time of great change, a ROYAL COURT shall be held upon the 15th of this Grand Harvest, within the throne room of Vallagne’s palace. We shall together discuss the forward steps for our nation, and petitions from the citizenry will be heard.

Bon'Ox slowly moves his valuables out of his mossy-dungeon of a house beneath Vallagne. On the way he notices a missive - he grabs it, gives it a quick glance and laughs...

“My girl,” Renilde smiled a wrinkled smile as her eyes scanned the address, never more proud to be a Petran citizen.

“My girl,” Sorrel smiled the Sun’s Smile upon hearing the news that his wife would take up the mantle of Lady Chancellor of the Commonwealth, having never been more proud to be a Petran citizen, and more importantly, an Auclair.
