Yemekar’s Balance

A publication by the

Irongrinder Clan

It was Yemekar, the Great Maker, who chose us Dwarves as his favored children, granting us a great honor but also a weighty duty. He commanded Urguan, our mighty ancestor, and all his kin, to ensure that none of his creations would gain the power to utterly destroy another. Yemekar's words still echo through the ages:

"Go forth, my children, and preserve the balance of my creation. For ye are the pillars that uphold the world."

- Yemekar

These words may have taken different meanings through the centuries, but among us Dwarven folk, especially in the higher spheres of the population, they are as relevant now as they were in the beginning. Urguan accepted his Creator's will, and thus, we Dwarves have remained ever-vigilant against those who would upset the balance Yemekar set forth.

We see how the pursuit of power corrupts, tearing at the very fabric of the world. Khorvad, once stood among the Brathmordakin, representing ambition. But ambition became his curse, leading him down a dark path that even Velkan Ironborn, a descendant of our kin, foolishly followed. The Oren Empire, too, sought power without restraint, and it brought only ruin.

Read the actions of Thorin Grandaxe, former Grand King of Urguan, who stood against the might of the Oren Empire. When the Empire fell, Thorin could have seized Malinor and Oren for himself, but he chose not to.

“Yemekar's Balance is thought to be the divine mandate given to Dwarves to maintain harmony and balance in all things, whether in nature, society, or warfare.”

- Onar Ireheart

He knew that to give in to temptation would be to forsake Yemekar’s will. Thorin's restraint teaches us that even on the cusp of victory, we must never abandon the Balance. Greed may be a natural blessing given to us by Grimdugan, but unchecked ambition and a thirst for power are curses that drive mortals mad.

And so, we Dwarves know well that empire-building and the pursuit of dominion over others are sins in the eyes of many of Urguan's descendants. It is our duty, given by Yemekar himself, to uphold the Balance, to be the guardians against chaos, and to ensure that the world remains as the Maker intended.
