EA SZALMAR TER MZIDER

“I Shall Not Falter”

LEGACY IS FORGED BY IRON AND BLOOD. It is not through idleness and complacency that great men and women are immortalized. Yet, it seems that our noble houses within the Kingdom have all but forgotten this. Our once proud lineage of noble-born warriors has dwindled. In their place, I have turned to commoners to fill the ranks of the Retinue - those who have tasted the bitter struggles of life. I have no quarrel with those of common blood; in fact, I have found them to be the better men.

And to you, the reader, I poise this question:

By whose mercy do you not know hardship?

It is by my sword that you have been shielded from suffering. You do not know the cold winter, the terror of war, and the hardship of grief. Life is only a struggle for survival, one which you have not endured. Many may dismiss my words and boast of their enlistment to the Brotherhood as proof of their service, but they have treated their duty as a mere formality. They seek to partake in glory without dirtying their hands.

I do not expect you, spoiled highborn men and women, to change your ways. It would be foolish of me to ask this of you. All I request is to send the runt of your litter to me, and I will forge them into true men and women.
