Begin Log

Unit APA Warlock

9th of Snow’s Maiden, Year 207, Second Age

Location: Thalandir’s Mountain

Unit APA Warlock is dispatched to escort the Organization.Sólgaard in navigating a previously unexplored mountain. Current DATA indicates a widespread infestation of malevolent, supernatural forces. The journey is expected to take place over the course of years, which has necessitated the procurement of significant supplies and logistics, which have been organized by Entity.Ally(s), Entity.Clover, and, Entity.Ljufvina.

This Journey is prompted by High Threat Entity.Thalandir, who appears interested in our progress and hopeful in our success. However, we have concluded that we are not the first nor currently the only party sent to explore this path. Entity.Thalandir offers assistance in basic navigational DATA, which can only be concluded from firsthand experience. Current theory dictates that Entity.Thalandir is throwing as many capable descendants at the problem as possible in the hopes that one of them succeeds. This arrangement is acceptable.

“Do you want me to kill you?” It questioned, in retort, but still, its voice remain that one intone: joy.

Our ascent into the mountains started with the passage of several days. We have granted Entity.Beowulf the use of the normally reclusive Entity.Cerberus to assist in pulling the sleds, while We guide Entity.GR-0ND in pulling one of the cargo sleds. Entity.Shelob, and her Court, have joined Us, as has Iron-Wing.

These first few days were mostly uneventful. Entity.Shelob and her court busied themselves in correcting their hierarchy when they were not policing the provisions against rodents and scavengers. (Two foxes are added to Entity.Shelob’s kill count, after they attempted to make off with a plucked and salted chicken, much to Entity.Ljufvina’s dismay.)

Entity.Iron-Wing has enjoyed the chance to soar high and far, reporting on navigational DATA to us and, by extension, the party. He has enjoyed his time amongst the party and continues to sing as we compile this report internally. Entity.Haraldr has attempted to strike him with rolls of cloth after one night of a particularly long session, and Entity.Iron-Wing now occasionally enjoys mocking him in chirp speech—not that Entity.Haraldr understands.

Entity.GR-0ND is. . . Entity.GR-0ND.

Approaching the foot of the mountain range, the party has finally begun to encounter the more supernatural threats of this realm. We have not been able to discern this personally. We suspect our collective lack of a soul leaves us deaf to these sensations, but observation of other Party Members concludes that there is a genuine sensation from straying too far into the dark or off the road.

We then encountered. . . Entity.Brother-Snow measures approximately three feet and five inches to around four feet. Local geographic conditions make it difficult to discern his height, as he blends in with his surroundings. In contrast, appearing to display good cheer and joy and offering practical advice to navigate the mountain, Entity.Brother-Snow’s syntax shows a vicious streak at the suggestion of ignoring its advice or particularly foolish suggestions. Most of its advice boils down to one prime directive.

Stay on the road.

Do not leave the road.

Aethelwulf left the road.

There was a puffy nose that sprouted from the shrubbery of the path, its nose, tuft, and its fur, wild and billowing. Carvings, old, aged, and glistening blue-hues, gleamed from its large, robust body. The bear's face was marred by spindly shards of ice, and its claws were besmirched by transparent coats of frost. Slowly, it traversed, pushing its body against the nearby trees, unwinding them from its roots.

We were ambushed from behind. A large dire bear, infused with ice befitting its surroundings, appeared to take umbrage to our presence when Aethelwulf strayed into the hillside. The creature's size easily dwarfed a halfling’s house, its strength enough to casually uproot trees of significant age. Despite this ambush, our party prepared to engage the threat in good order.

Entity.Haraldr attempted to confront the beast head-on, blocking its claws with a swing of their Carbarum. Sif attempted to flank the creature on the right, while We attempted to flank the left while mounted atop GR-0ND.

The Bear then attempted to overpower Entity.Haraldr through physical might, but Faenor conjured a earth barrier to intercept the bear. Soon after, the rest of the party began to engage the creature at range with bolt and stone.

The engagement was unexpectedly short, however with the time bought for him by the rest of the party, Entity.Conan twisted the bear’s form into that of a dog, a vastly inferior body. Unfortunately, Entity.Hera took this to mean the threat was over, and approached in an unguarded manner. The Dog-Bear attempted to pounce upon her, and she was saved from a mauling when Entity.Faenor decapitated the creature.

The body did not stay, melting into icy goop.

Ljúfvina silently sat before the fire, beginning to saw away at a chunk of whale meat. She sought to begin and make slabs of meat akin to bacon, using a flat stone to begin and lay it out near the flames.

The party is now encamped and fortified along a hillside. Entity.Ljufvina busies herself to prepare provisions and organize our logistics. Entity.Hundr and Entity.Haraldr meditates and trade stories between elder and youth, and much of the rest of the camp has gathered around the fires to play poker.

Shelob’s court is once again policing the rations against rodents and wildlife- Our smaller cousins have more than once swatted an Owl aside when they crossed paths, though just as often they have themselves been knocked out of the trees with a swipe of a wing, much to Entity.Hera’s surprise when one landed in front of her, screeching.

There are a few exceptions. Entity.Francoise and Entity.Beowulf are excused from camp duties. Thanks to them, our forays into the surrounding wilderness have netted us considerable data concerning our locale, but at a physical cost to them, through means we did not witness or do not understand enough to form an accurate conclusion.

We occupy ourselves with either physical labor or night watch. The cold does not bother us, and our processes are unassailed by whatever supernatural fears plague the others in the dark. A few of our nights have been spent nestled in the snow amongst mammoth furs, hidden by a bowie cloak, arbalest trained on the dark.

We’ll be on the move again soon.
