It is within my Great PLEASURE to Standardize the measurement of the land, so which that it can be PROPERLY SURVEYED

 

Long have the smallfolk of the land been using the standard measurement of Beans and grains of which the arithmetic is astronomical.

And so,

I shall seek to change this by ROYAL DECREE

Hence force,

All measurement shall be based upon my foot, I have a rather large foot and it shall be used in 

LAND SURVEYS

 

Clearly my foot is not large enough to cover LARGE swaths of land, and thus the bean problem.

In earnest RESPONSE I shall issue official terms of Measurement based on said FOOT

And the Conversions shall be thus,

Yard: 

Which is an already used term of measurement in Ravenmire, and so standardization is FIT;

1 Yard shall equal 3 Feet.

Pole:

A Pole of Measurement can be measured using a VERY LONG pole,

1 Pole is equal to 5 Yards

 

Furlong:

The furrowed length of an Acre, generally a Furlong is described as the amount of land one Furrow can plow in a single instance.

1 Furlong is equal to 4 Poles

1 Furlong is also equivalent to 20 Yards

 

Mile:

A mile is the paced length of a Hide.

1 Mile is equal to 80 Yards

1 Mile is equal to 4 Furlongs

1 Mile is equal to 16 Poles

 

League:

A League, is a large length of measurement equal to 3 Miles in size

1 League is equal to 240 Yards

 

Measurement in terms of AREA

 

Acre:

An Acre is the area of land in which a furrow can plow in a single day

An Acre is equal to 1 Furlong by 1 Furlong 

1 Acre is equal to 20 Yards by 20 Yards

 

Yardland:

A Yardland is the area of land in which a single ox can work in a season

One Yardland is equivalent to 2 Acres

One Yardland is equal to 40 Yards by 40 Yards

 

Hide:

The Area of a Hide is equivalent to the length of a Mile by the Length of ANOTHER Mile.

One Hide is equivalent to 2 Yardlands

One Hide is equivalent to 4 Acres

One Hide is equal to 80 Yards by 80 Yards
