THE EDGE OF THE MIDDEN

A letter is sent by courier to the King of the Petra, and read within his court. Should he publicize a response, the scribes were ordered to make the letter publicly available.

17th of Horen's Calling 2021

“I will find my spirit steadfast,

My blade as the tool wielded dually,

By both myself and GOD above.

So that HIS enemies shall find,

That which is reserved for the sinner,

And the fate for the iniquitous.”

Amen.

Let us know the nature of this war; this war is a worldly brother war provoked because of paranoia against the Temple. The Curia is corrupt! The Curia seeks to enthrall us all as slaves to an empire! It is folly at best, and a cunning lie otherwise. Let only a fool deny it; for all the circle of Aevos can see plainly that war brews between west and east, and a decision must be made on who to support.

Petra has decided to support Haense, and to disinvite Numendil and the Temple from their alliance. The Dame-Chancellor spoke plainly before many gathered Curia that the intent was to oppose the Temple, and to pressure the Pontifical Throne. You have chosen your side; and it is a terrible mistake. You fight to oppose a tyranny which does not exist, which can never come to bear down on you.

The Covenant is going to lose. It is better to surrender, and best to do it quick.

Why perpetuate a fight aimed to defend the ego of a crown which none deny must be humiliated for its own purity? Why throw your people into war against the Church, incite schismatic rhetoric and draft up an inflated list of grievances to justify it? Would you set your kingdom to suffer a losing war against their neighbors in defense of Joren’s pride? What harm shall come to his tribe?

It breaks my heart to say it, but I am bound by my oaths. We march now to secure your uninhabited borderlands, to secure our supply routes. See now the consequence brought by necessity by your choice; for what good? But the war is young; exit it, demilitarize your northern border and you would be a welcomed neighbor again. What weregild may be asked of by the war council would not be immeasurable, and Numendil even would help to pay for love of your tribe! There would be no cause to prosecute you, nor would your tribe be bothered in any way or sovereignty challenged.

Make your choice wisely, Therin; do not sacrifice the Tribe of Petra in war for the gain of Joren’s preserved pride.

HER LOVE
✦ • ──────────────────── • ✦ • ──────────────────── • ✦

2020 IMP

A languid sigh, hushed unto sleep-addled lips, as the kestrel brought of the tidings, unto the Dame, Amélie's effects; a warmth, nary hushed, unto red-daubed cheeks, decided, unflinching, with the virtue, that they did speak.

" As we would have forfeit our lives, in defence of our Númendain kin, that fateful eve, whence our Holy Mother Church, avowed to raise a palm & see Númenost's walls 'charred black', so too do we stand aloft, by our Father's virtue, this eve, old, dearest friend."

" That such would your avarice, and wroth.. lead you nary only to raise our Lord God's Banner, in absence of His virtue & faith, but slander my name.. and bid lies amidst my lips.. whence I wept & pleaded before the Curia & our kinfolk, to cease their betrayal of our Faith - to see the ill they have done unto our Flock, and the divide brokered by their deeds, and the abandonment, of our Father's very heart, virtue & faith - for avarice, wroth & state.."

She would speak on, to herself, in love & lament, tears welling, gently marred unto her cheeks, fallen stars, bid in lament, over the loss, of nary a friend, alone, but for her beloved Númendain itself, nary deserving to be mistreated & led so astray, to raise arms against virtue, heart & faith.

From Riverlands, of kinfolk mine; my children, kindred, that doth shine; for which I serve, and give my life. Whence virtue begs, our heart’s each beat, whence for aught Aevos, would toil & bleed; sooner to forfeit of our lives, than spurn & shed, our Father’s cries. "

She recited the words, bid in love, of her Pétrine & Númendain kinfolk, children & kindred, a dainted palm wrest aloft, to cup her tear-stained cheek.

Spare our sisters, and brothers, Father, for his sins, are naught, their own."

He had held the smoldering bricks of his home as a youth. Vowed that none of them would ever forget. Though time had cradled the bitter heart, it had never fully quelled it.

Everytime Canonius walked through the ruins of Winburgh, the wind blew through the hollowed shells of the buildings.

It caused the wind to howl and screech, as though thousands of souls were screaming for revenge.

To him this was personal. To him this was justice.

He could only hope that the heart of petra would share in the fate of his home, a fate they had insisted upon.

Fiat justitia pereat mundus.

A response long deliberated over, and eventually handed to the poor messengers who

waited quite some time for the missive to be prepared.

This war is a tragedy. It has come between allies and friends, not to mention your own family. Truly, it is a shame what has become of the deep bonds of friendship our people shared.

Petra did not provoke this war, nor seek it. I actively sought to maintain peace through diplomacy, but words alone were not enough. I had a choice to make at the onset of war, and it was not an easy one to make.

Petra stands with Haense, and the rest of the covenant, not because of fear, nor flattery, but by chosen conviction. Although we did not declare this war, we are now named its villains. We do not fight for pride, nor ego, but for the right of every realm to steer their own course without threat of subjugation.

You speak to me in a similar manner as an abuser would to their victim. You say that the Church does not seek dominion. If that is true, then why do you advance on our lands? Why send couriers bearing ultimatums while armies follow on their heels?

You bring violence upon your own family. Did you know your second grandson was born recently? I pray for a time where Joseph Antonius and Alexander Belzagar spend time with their grandfather, their aunts, uncles, cousins, and the rest of their Numendil kin. And I would have liked to see them play in Numenost and even climb the chocolate tree like I did as a child.

I lament what could have been were we able to find peace where we've discovered war.

S I G N E D ,

HIS ROYAL MAJESTY, Therin I, by the Grace of GOD, King of the Petra, Prince of Abrana,
Duke of Valfleur, Marquis de Val d’Estenou, Count of Temesch, Torm Marian, Brasca, and Moere,

Viscount of Mies, Baron of Garmont, Vallagne-en-Petra, Eagles Peak, Hrenthorne, Wittenbach and Resmore,

When Hart had heard word of the missives contents he had to take a moment alone. They would dare attack his home?
This meant he  would see friends, or those he used to think of as friends, march against the walls of Petra. Trying to ransack and burn what he had come to love deeply.
This would not stand.

The 16 year old never wanted to hurt anyone but if former allies would turn the blade and flame upon his home, his people, his family. Then so would he turn the blade on those who tried.

"AVE PETRA!"

**The old priestess once part of the Holy Army, saw her little sister sad after reading a letter. Coming to have a break after hours of work in the Petra Clinic, she took the letter from Amelie to gave a read and understand where the issue came from. Once read it, she can't hold her anger back, after what all church and the Holy Army did to her, now they are bringing the war to her home.

"War is never a beatifull thing, more when you see friends killing each other...but they are no longer once they were, corrupted and ready to do whatever they want to wage war"

*say with an hint of sadness and hate, before turning to Amelie, giving the most warm smile she can and embrace her in a gentle hug, before saying

"I choose to leave behind that life, but i'm ready to follow you and the king in this war....and if i need to protect you and the nation to die in this war. Let them speak, because they dont know what they are doing, Amelie"

*once Valerie, saw that Amelie calmed down...she stood up, and left the room to prepare herself for the war.

Arthur eyed the the next spot of battle unhappily. Despite any strategic sense it made, he could not find himself enthusiastic or satisfied with any justification he could conjure in his mind. Would he see Hart in battle? Would he see the King who helped facilitate and cultivate the happiest moments of his life? Would he find himself standing atop the ruins of some Petran keep and all their dead and be expected to cheer its destruction? He believed the Tar when he said he would not kill needlessly. But what of the rest? Who would die simply because they had all stepped into the insatiable maw that was the acts of war.
"Its not personal." He said, merely to himself. And in the silence that followed, was left wondering if it mattered.

With his fingertips tapping the table, Simon Winchester silently read the declaration. He sighed quietly and muttered,

"How is the Church unable to understand?"

He shook his head and took another look at the parchment.

"They draw the line, then wonder why people push back."

Estevot just stared, already hating this war even more. "How much more blood will be spilled before you people realize that you are serving no one with your crusade but Iblees and the enemies of descendent kind."

Now he chose to train. For after what he saw in the desert earlier, he knew only one thing.

The Holy League Must Die.

Someone from the local administration would read this missive having nothing else to say then:
"Nei, nei. This is the church? Didn't believed that the building would lose all it foundation and replace it with sharp sticks. Kindly to say, my disappointment can be only weighted by God themself."

Who protects the flock from the Shepards at suppertime?

You claim to protect the flock out of love,

but we all know that it is the flock that feeds the Shepard.

The Shepard needs the flock, for he will die without nourishment.

The flock does not need the Shepard. Yes, some may be taken by wolves,

but all will eventually be slaughtered by the Shepard.

"So mote it be." Aytheln concluded. He had recovered well from the first battle, it was time to march again. He sought out his fellow Maehrzh in the Ramasarian Underdark, preparing them for the bloodshed that was to come. "Lye lokan aztou, thyleerzh. Dunr tesso zb tom." - "We march for Cauróst, let them face the wrath of the Ashen Folk once again."
