Raw Form

Colorstone, known as rainbow alum and other colloquial names, occurs within most caverns. It holds a pale white color similar to alum. The texture and smell are like rock salt, forming foggy crystalline stalagmites towering from the cavern floor. The material is extremely brittle and can break easily into fine dust with slight pressure. Raw colorstone is not workable or usable outside being a chalky power or salty chunk of rock.

Redlines

Spoiler
  • Raw colorstone serves no practical purpose unless refined.
  • Raw colorstone is considered common knowledge, but it is best to find out about this material in roleplay.
  • Does not require an ST signature.

Harvesting

Harvesting this material is nonhazardous except for some possible lung and eye irritation from the dust produced should the pillar shatter on the floor. Due to this, it is preferred to harvest the pillar from the top down. Once extracted by hand or pick, the rocks can be ground into a powder.

Redlines

Spoiler
  • Harvesting Colorstone is common knowledge due to its simplicity to gather, even with a strong enough pull it can be broken off.

Refining

Once the powder is produced, it can be soaked in water. The dust expands and thickens the mixture, similar in texture to paint. Once satisfied, materials can be added to the mixture to change its colors vibrantly. Colors can become saturated or desaturated depending on how much material is added. Paint will remain fresh seemingly indefinitely until applied.

The current colors available are the following:

  • White: No material added.
  • Red: Aurum
  • Orange: Bones.
  • Yellow: Salt.
  • Green or Blue: Copper.
  • Indigo or Purple: Potash / Fertilizer.

Application

Colorstone can be applied to any metal with a brush, and like paint, it dries after a few hours of roleplay time. Although the true nature of the metal is never obscured, it leaves a lustrous appearance, unlike its counterpart. Multiple colors can be applied to one item as well, although one should be conscious with the space present.

Redlines

Spoiler
  • Colorstone may NEVER obscure what a metal is, nor can it change its visual effects.
  • Colorstone may NEVER change the properties of a metal outside color.
  • Colorstone holds no combative advantage. It’s just metal paint.
  • Colorstone can be washed away should it soak in alcohol. This cannot be done during combat.
  • Even if colorstone is applied to aurum or copper, it will retain the paint’s color despite the paint.
  • Does not require an ST signature.

Purpose

From the top, people. This is a long time coming. Colorstone was perhaps my first lore on the server and needs a rework. In its current state, there is a lot of confusion about what colorstone can do or how it is made. I hope this rewrite will compress the lore into its necessities as well as reduce confusion. Although this sub is very short, it fixes issues in the current writing.

This Lore has been accepted. Moved to Implemented Lore, it will be sorted to it's appropriate category soon. Please note that if this is playable lore, such as a magic or CA, you will need to write a guide for this piece. You will be contacted regarding the guide (or implementation if it isn’t needed) shortly.
