DrFong 226 Share Posted October 5, 2025 Am I reading it correctly that 123 people out of 280 who wanted to play on LOTC were denied? We turned away 44% of new potential players? Does anyone else see this as a failure of the whitelist application system? Nothing against our hardworking Community Staff who get to wade through the applications each day, but maybe something is wrong with the whitelisting process? Maybe the test isn't clear? Maybe people aren't understanding the value of being whitelisted beforehand and not wanting to put in the effort ahead of time? Do we have a list of why applications are being denied? I'm not sure what the problem is, but throwing away 44% of potential "customers" seems unsustainable.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but throwing away 44% of potential "customers" seems unsustainable. It's definitely a jarring number, however, a good lot of those are players who either: A) Stopped looking at LOTC after applying (even if get to their app within a day and reach out via forums and discord) or B) use AI in their application. The former comprising probably like 90% of denied applications. The latter of which are people who use AI to write a 6 sentence backstory/response, what happens when they have much more on the server. Which I think we both can agree the use of AI in active RP is kind of undesirable. However, I would strongly argue against the idea that it's unsustainable given that the server's been on this model for over a decade, and has constantly rotating players, and a relatively stable playerbase. I firmly believe those who want the experience will stay and those who don't won't, and there are some basics that need to be understood prior to letting someone play, some of which can't be automated by a tutorial island. Having been on CT off-and-on for several years, during different eras of the server, the application has gotten considerably easier (It's actually a very interesting topic, I would recommend looking at some old apps from when they were proper posts vs the dedicated section we have now which doesn't really preserve old formats). I say this knowing that I've seven years of roleplay experience, but doing the application can truly be a 20-30 minute process as of now. No LOTC lore knowledge is required, and we only need a simply grasp of metagaming and powergaming and a non-meme skin (which can be borrowed from the Archive). I can definitely see the concern with it, but the model works for LOTC. We've seen new-heads rise, and a lot of old-heads get cycled out and quit. While the goal is to include as many as possible on LOTC, we don't necessarily need to be the biggest server to have a quality experience. Please note these are just my personal opinions built on my experiences with all of this. @DrFong
